Richard Lephew Obituary

Richard Dyer Lephew Sr., 62, of Wytheville, the Piney community, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008. Funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m. at Bakers Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. James Tunnell, James Black and Connie Black officiating. A graveside service will be held Friday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m. at the Lephew Cemetery with Grover King Post 1115 VFW conducting military rites. He was born May 10, 1946, in Gary, W.Va., son of the late James Dyer and Edna Margaret Kelly Lephew. He was retired from the U.S. Army and was a life member of the VFW. He was a member of Bakers Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha Nancy Lephew. Survivors include his wife, Deborah Hopkins Lephew; daughter, Jennette Lynn Lephew of Longmont, Colo.; a son, Richard D. Lephew Jr. of Denver, Colo.; a stepson, Christopher Todd Viars of Pulaski; a stepdaughter, Carrianne Lynnette Heikes of Christiansburg; two brothers, Michael J. Lephew of Kellysville, Calif., and Roger Lephew of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; four sisters, Peggy Erwin of Connecticut, Reba Adams of Okeechobee, Fla., Dana Ragan of Fort Myers, Fla., and Veronica Parker of Fort Myers, Fla.; special friends, Gilmer and Jean Rickey, and Reed Fisher; and four grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday, Oct. 16, from 5:30 to 7:30 (service time) at the church or any time at the residence. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.

To the Lephew family...

You're in my thoughts and prayers. Richard will be missed.
I talked to Richard often & we enjoyed discussing our years spent at Thorpe #5.
Richard was also very good to stop at the #10 Nursing Home each trip to McDowell Co to visit with my Mom & I always appreciated that. Mom enjoyed his visits.
