Alma Argana Elswick

Mrs. Alma Argana Elswick, of Richlands, Va., passed away Thurs., Oct. 16, 2008 in an Abingdon, Va., nursing home, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Coeburn, Va., and was the daughter of the late James Gilbert and Arabelle Carpenter Woody. She had made her home in the Richlands area most of her life and was a LPN at the Mattie Williams Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Richlands, Va., and was a member of the Bluefield Chapter #102 O.E.S. and the Rebekah's Lodge. She loved animals and was a big supporter of the Tazewell County Humane Society and loved to crochet. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Fred Elswick. Survivors are: one sister, Myrtle Atkins of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, Ed Woody and wife, Bonnie of New Bern, N.C.; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Alma Elswick were conducted Sat., Oct. 18, 2008 at 7:00 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va., with the Rev. David Brannock officiating. Entombment followed at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum on Sun., Oct. 19, 2008 at 1:00 pm. Friends called after 6:00 pm Sat., Oct. 18, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va. Members of Bluefield Chapter #102 OES conducted Eastern Star services Sat. evening at 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tazewell County Humane Society, Box 281, Tazewell, Va. 24651.
