Virgil Farmer

Mr. Virgil Monroe Farmer, age 97 of Tazewell County, Va., died Mon., Oct. 13, 2008 at the Golden Age Retirement Home at Claypool Hill, Va. Born Jan. 4, 1911 in Grayson County, Va., he was a son of the late Walter Farmer and Luevada Sheets Farmer. Mr. Farmer was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired coal miner, having been employed by the Pocahontas Fuel Company and was a member of the UMWA Local 1498, District #17. Mr. Farmer had also been employed at Compton sawmill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Presley Farmer; his second wife, Mae Hypes Farmer; three sisters, Blannie Halsey, Arnie Jones, and Grace Farmer; seven brothers, Blain, Breece, Fred, Wade, Jesse, Jack, and Greek Farmer. Survivors include his children: Mr. Eugene Farmer of Austin, Texas, Mrs. Sam (Agnes) Kinser of Bastian, Va., Mrs. Jim (Faye) Bendall of Athens, Ala., Mrs. Randall (Peggy) Waddell of Tazewell, Va., Mr. Kenneth Farmer and wife, Anne of North Tazewell, Va., and Mr. Douglas Farmer and wife, Sigrid of Breitenbach, Germany; one sister, Mrs. Lovey Hash of Berea, Ky.; one brother, Mr. Marvin Farmer of Stuart, Va.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends. Funeral services for Mr. Virgil Monroe Farmer were conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thurs., Oct. 16, 2008 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va., with Pastor Chuck Patterson officiating. Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. Grandsons served as pallbearers. The family received friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Thurs., Oct. 16, 2008.
