Nadine F. Jackson

Nadine F. Jackson died Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, after a heroic battle with ALS. Funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Cindy Privette officiating. Entombment was in Rosewood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Born July 23, 1931, to the late R.T. and Mamie J. Frazier, she grew up and lived in the Poplar Camp/Browntown area of Wythe County surrounded by many friends and family. As a child she developed a love for the piano which continued to blossom throughout the years. During her teenage years, she attended Jackson Memorial High School where she spoke fondly of favorite teachers, events and playing guard on the basketball team. Also in her teens, she met a striking young man by the name of Charles Letcher Jackson who captured her heart. They were married on July 13, 1947, and spent 41 wonderful years together. In the following years, they had two beautiful daughters, Donna Lynn Jackson (Hubbard) and Tammy Gale Jackson (Watson). Family, friends and faith were her foundation throughout life never missing a moment. In 1975, she graduated from Radford College with a master's in early childhood education. With a stronghold on the importance of children's learning, she taught kindergarten at Spiller Elementary School for 22 years. She understood the importance of reading and made every attempt possible to ensure that every child in her classroom, regardless of ability level, achieved on or above their level. She was truly a master teacher and failure was not an option. After her retirement, she enjoyed her three grandchildren, Charles Wyatt Hubbard, Trey Letcher Watson and Jacob Gwyn Watson, which she held close to her heart enjoying every moment as a grandmother. Opportunities brought forth times of traveling out West and to Mexico. She could not wait to return home and tell about all the wonderful sights he had seen throughout God's country. As a devout Christian, she was honored to utilize her talent at playing the piano for Austinville Baptist Church, weddings and special events. She attended Galax First Baptist and Pioneer Baptist churches where she played an integral part. This is a mere snapshot of her life and how she lived life to the fullest. Words can only capture a glimpse of how very wonderful she was as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and child of God. Thank you, Mom, for all that you have instilled in us. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Letcher Jackson. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Lynn Jackson Hubbard and husband Steve of Buchanan, Tammy Jackson Watson and husband Jay of Max Meadows; three grandchildren, Charles Wyatt Hubbard, Trey Letcher Watson and Jacob Gwyn Watson; and a sister, Adeline F. Hanks and husband Jay of King, N.C. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville was in charge of the arrangements.
