Charles R. "Bob" Pickle

Charles Robert "Bob" Pickle, 67, of Rural Retreat died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008. Funeral service was held Friday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Bell officiating. Interment was in Rosewood Memorial Gardens with America Legion Post 229 conducting graveside military rites. He was born Oct. 25, 1941, in Smyth County. He retired from Donnkenney Inc. after 38 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran, member of American Legion Post 229 of Rural Retreat, past member of Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge 226, member of the Wytheville Moose Lodge 394, member of Black Diamond Legion 221 of Marion and numerous other organizations. He was preceded in death by his father, John Wiley Pickle. Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Lena M. Pickle of the home; daughter and spouse, Peggy Engle and Jerry Halsey of Marion; special granddaughter, Brandy Halsey of Marion; mother, Minnie J. Pickle of Groseclose; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Roger Mitchell of Cedar Springs; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Sue Pickle of Speedwell, Donald Pickle and friend Norma of Indiana, Kenneth and Stephanie Pickle, David and Ila Pickle, John E. Sherry Pickle, all of Groseclose; two brothers-in-law, Garland W. Hearl of Bristol and Edward C. Keller of Florida; 16 nieces and nephews; 21 great-nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and special friends. Memorial donations may be made to the Rural Retreat Volunteer Emergency Service or the American Cancer Society. Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat was in charge of the arrangements.
