Fred Sayers Obituary

Fred Sayers of Max Meadows died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at his residence. Funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Jerry Buckner and Kenneth C. Quesenberry officiating. Interment will be in West End Cemetery. He was born Aug. 30, 1938, in Ivanhoe, son of the late Garland "Hobe" and Rosie Sayers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Spencer Sayers; infant son, Garland Alexander Sayers; and four brothers, Mitchell Sayers, Lloyd Sayers, Clyde Sayers and Glenn Sayers. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred Jr. and Kathy Sayers, Mark and Lequana Sayers, all of Max Meadows; three daughters and son-in-law, Teresa S. Tate, Drema S. Stoneman, Angelia and Bud Jackson, all of Max Meadows; two brothers and sister-in-law, Buford and Shirley Sawyers, and Sam Sawyers; special grandson, Garland Sayers; 10 other grandchildren; and very special friend, Garland C. Austin. The family will receive friends Sunday, Nov. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.
