Mrs. Ottie Gay Nelson Barrett, age 90, of the Steelesburg section of Cedar Bluff, Va., died Sat., Nov. 8, 2008 at her home. She was born in the Bearwallow section of Tazewell County, Va., and was a daughter of the late Otis Lee and Catherine Wagner Nelson, both Tazewell County natives. She was a lifelong resident of the Jewell Ridge and Cedar Bluff areas and was of the Holiness Faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Fred Barrett, Sr.; one daughter, Dollie K. Holmes; one son, Fred Barrett, Jr.; two brothers, Andrew Jackson Nelson and Cecil Nelson; one grandson, Leslie Barrett; and one great grandson, Matthew Jesse. Survivors are: three daughters: Mrs. Bettie Moran and husband, James, of Christiansburg, Va., Mrs. Marie Keen and husband, Dennis, of Bandy, Va., Mrs. Elsie Griffith of Jewell Ridge, Va.; one son: Mr. Louie Barrett and wife, Anna, of Steelesburg, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Alivia Vandyke of Jewell Ridge, Va.; three brothers: Mr. Orville Nelson of Bandy, Va., Mr. Marvin Nelson of Richlands, Va., Mr. Otis Nelson of Jewell Ridge, Va.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren also survive. Graveside services for Mrs. Ottie Gay Nelson Barrett were conducted Mon., Nov. 10, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum with Rev. Delmer Somoskey officiating. Interment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery. Following her wishes, there was no visitation.
