James Busick Obituary

James Eldridge "Jim" Busick, 82, of Cripple Creek died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at his home. Funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 8:30 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tim Worgan officiating. Interment will be Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m. at the Crockett Family Cemetery in Cripple Creek. He began his work career driving a truck for Blue Ridge Transfer. He the went to work with the Virginia Iron & Coal Company where he was farm supervisor until the company ceased operation. He then went to work for Stanley King at Modern Farm Equipment as a tractor mechanic. After the business closed, he worked for Pendleton Construction as a mechanic until he retired to be the community tractor mechanic, all while being a lifetime farmer in the Cripple Creek community. He attended Crockett's Chapel United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest R. and Bessie Crockett Busick; a sister, Ernestine B. Bolton; a brother-in-law, Stranger "Budge" Huddle; and a sister-in-law, Helen Quisenberry. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Marvella Q. Busick of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra B. Akers of Crestone, Colo., Nancy B. and Jim Herczeg of Elkton, Md., Melissa B. and Russell Carter of Wytheville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard L. "Dickie" and Carole Busick of Bluefield, W.Va., James C. "Jimmy" and Ethel Busick of Cripple Creek; four granddaughters and their husbands, Kim Akers of Raleigh, N.C., Allison and Chris Peeples of Wytheville, Dianna Busick of Charlotte, N.C., and April Busick of Cripple Creek; three grandsons and their wives, Chris and Kelly Akers of Cary, N.C., Gordon and April Lindamood of Elkton, Md., and Todd Busick, who lived with Jim to help him farm in later years; a great-grandchild, Gordon Lindamood IV of Elkton, Md.; a sister, Daphne B. Huddle of Cripple Creek; a brother and sister-in-law, L.C. "Peanut" and Zella Hall Busick of Springfield, Ohio; two brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Doris Quisenberry of Palm Desert, Calif., and Orvel Quisenberry of Kingsport, Tenn.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean Q. and Jerry Ledger of Lake Geneva, Wis.; a very special cousin, Nat and Nancy Porter of Wytheville; and many caring nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Jim always said to never send him flowers because he couldn't eat them. In lieu of flowers, he requested donations be made to the Crockett Family Cemetery, c/o Adair King, 1522 Ridge Avenue, Crockett, VA 24323. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.

To the Busick Family and my dear friend Missy: May all of you have only great memories of Mr Jim. I remember his teary eyes during many songs we sang at Crockett's Chapel and what a blessing it was to see him being blessed by hearing his family members sing. He will be missed by everyone in the community.
