Rufus Keen Obituary

Rufus Keen, age 69 of Pilgrim Knob, Va., passed away Tues., Nov. 25, 2008 in a Richlands, Va., hospital. Born Jan. 2, 1939 in Buchanan County, Va., he was the son of the late William J. and Flossie Horn Keen. He was a retired coal miner with Pittston Coal Company and a member of UMWA. Rufus enjoyed gardening, wood working and home improvement jobs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Douglas Keen, and one son, James Dewayne Keen. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nell Matney Keen; two daughters, Vickie Vandyke and husband, James, of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Peggy Fabozzi and husband, Jeffrey, of Jonesborough, Tenn.; one son, Jerry Lee Keen of Pilgrim Knob; two brothers, Lincous Keen and wife, Faye, of Whitewood and Hubert Keen and wife, Sue, of Oakwood; two sisters, Mary Ellen Matney and husband, Alfred, of Seffner, Fla., and Helen Reynolds and husband, Curtis, of Seffner, Fla.; two grandsons, Marshall Blankenship and Jeremiah (J.T.) Keen; one granddaughter, Jessica Nichole Horn; one great-grandson, Payton Wade Blankenship. A memorial service was conducted at 1:00 p.m. Fri., Nov. 28, 2008 at Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain, Va., with Rev. Terry Keen officiating. The family received friends after 12:00 noon Fri., Nov. 28, at Buchanan Funeral Service at Keen Mountain, Va. Online condolences may be sent to the family by going to www.SingletonFuneralService.com.
