Delmar Powers Obituary

Mr. Delmar Hank Powers, age 55 of the Dry Fork / Bandy communities of North Tazewell, Va., went to be with the Lord on Thurs., Nov. 27, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born August 29, 1953 in Tazewell County, Va., he was a son of the late Charlie Louis Powers, Sr. and Lodina Beavers Powers. Hank had many friends who he considered to be his "family" and loved them unconditionally. For the last several years, Hank was blessed to have been loved and cared for daily by Willard Peery and his wife, Florence. In addition, he was also cared for on a daily basis by Willard's daughter, Robin Peery Tabor and husband, Mark. Hank loved them all dearly and regarded them as family. In turn, they loved him dearly and thought of him as part of their family. In addition, Hank made his home with his good friend, Travis "Trav" McCoy and considered him to be part of his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Eddie Dean Powers, Robert Fitzgerald Powers, and Freddie Wayne Powers. Survivors include one daughter, Tammy Powers of Pennsylvania; four sisters, Judy Faye Clark and husband, Frank, of Tazewell, Va., Virginia Dare Hutton and husband, Claude, of Marion, Va., Rosemary Powers of Lebanon, Va., and Linda Marie Childress and husband, Tim, of Bristol, Va.; four brothers, Charlie Powers, Jr. and Jerry Lynn Powers, both of Tazewell, Va., Michael Powers of Hillsville, Va., and David Gross of Richlands, Va.; two nieces, Melissa Bandy Patterson and husband, Wayne, and Melinda Hutton Vest and husband, Brian; three nephews, Major Claude "Odge" Hutton, Jr. and wife, Allison, Matthew Childress, and Airman Daniel Childress; several cousins and a host of friends. Hank was a free spirit who loved life, people, and laughter. He never met a stranger and always made fast friends with everyone he encountered. He will be truly missed by all. Funeral services for Mr. Delmar Hank Powers were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sun., Nov. 30, 2008 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va., with Pastor Oscar Woodall officiating. Burial followed at Woodall Family Cemetery in Bandy, Va. Friends and family served as pallbearers. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 – 9 p.m. Sat., Nov. 29, 2008.
