Forest Hayes Obituary

Forest Hayes, 85, of Sugar Grove, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2009 at his home. He was born Oct. 25, 1923 in Clemmonsville, Ky., the son of William Payton and Fannie Caroline Pennington Hayes. He was a member of Furnace Hill Lutheran Church and a life member of VFW Post 4667 of Marion. He was a veteran of World War II. He retired after 25 years of service at Smyth County Community Hospital. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters, Elzina, Susann, Ruth, Rosie, Margaret, Thelma, Hazel; three brothers, Paul, Everett, Irvin. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Eva Mae Hash Hayes; daughter, Vicki Renee Patton and husband, Allen, of Sugar Grove; Shannon Anderson and Casey Buchannan whom he considered daughters; two sons, Ronnie Hayes and wife, Laurie, of Sherrills Ford, N.C.; Mike Hayes and wife, Mary Ann, of Chilhowie; granddaughters, Jenny Gallihugh and husband, Joe, of Manassas, Amber Osborne and Jessica Patton of Sugar Grove; a special little guy he considered his grandson, Jordan Osborne of Marion; brothers-in-law, Sherman Brown of Chilhowie, Bill Hash and wife, Nan, of Nokesville, Paul Hash and wife, Peg, of Berryville; sister-in-law, Rena Hash of Madison; extended family members, Charlotte Hayes, Joe Osborne, and family; special friends, A. J. and Roxanne Stacey; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11, at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Vicar Brian Chaffee and the Rev. Donald Medley officiating. Burial followed in the Laurel Cemetery in Konnarock, where military rites were conducted by Marion VFW Post 4667. The family received friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel in Marion. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
