Winnie Sherwood

Winnie Sherwood, 85, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, in Bristol Regional Hospital. She was a native of Smyth County and a member of The Independent Church of the Brethren. She was born Feb. 2, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Ambrose Jason Ward and Essie Mae Harris Ward. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Frank Sherwood. Survivors include four children, Carole Sherwood Roland of Chilhowie, Bettie Sherwood McMillan, of Yuma, Ariz., Mary Sherwood Castellow of Hampton, and William (Willie) Sherwood of Marion; one brother, Scott Ward of Marion; one sister, Celia Ward Adams Winter Haven, Fla.; and six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, in Seaver-Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fred Parker officiating. Burial followed in the West Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday, Jan. 11, from 6-8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the organization/church of your choice in honor of Winnie Sherwood.
