David L. Marsh

David Lee Marsh, 81, of Crockett died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville. Funeral service will be held Sunday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. at Berea Christian Church with the Rev. Gary Houseman officiating. Interment will be in the Berea Christian Church Cemetery. He was born Dec. 14, 1927, in Crockett, son of the late James Kelly and Gladys Catron Marsh. He graduated from Rural Retreat High School and attended Roanoke Business College. He was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1946. After he was discharged, he was employed with the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He also was a farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Riggle Marsh; a daughter, Kathy Ann Marsh; a son, James Steven Marsh; and a sister, Emma Copenhaver. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lee and Sheila Marsh of Richmond, and Michael Marsh of Crockett; two grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin and Stacy Marsh of Johnson City, Tenn., Jason and Christy Marsh of Sandy, Utah; five great-grandchildren, Kiersten Marsh, Camden Marsh, Cody Marsh, Jessica Marsh and Hannah Marsh; and a nephew and his wife, Ranny and Carol Copenhaver and their son, Kelly. The family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.
