Connie Louverna Handy Wright, 85, of Ivanhoe died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009. Funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Waller officiating. Interment was in the Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery. She was born Aug. 9, 1923, in Grayson County, daughter of the late Samuel Ellis and Minnie Roberts Handy. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Angela Maines and Linda Lindamood; four brothers, Albert, Claude, Sherman and Will; and three sisters, Alma, Vera and Jeannett. Survivors include her husband, Sherman Eugene Wright Sr.; nine children and their spouses, Douglas and Judy Wright of Ivanhoe, Darhlene and Ron Holland of Roanoke, Judith Ann and Harrison Maines of Sparta, N.C., Jerry Wright and special friend, Lesa Dalton, of Independence, Doris Davis and special friend, Billy Joe Davis, of Wytheville, Barry and Sheryl Wright of Ivanhoe, Garry and Rhonda Wright of Draper, Tammy and Ray Jackson of Conneaut, Ohio, and Terry and Bill Grigson of Indiana; a brother, Elbert "Sonny" Handy of West Pont, Wash.; three sisters, Alene Handy of Atlanta, Ga., Hattie Hill of Fries and Judy Finnerty of Moyock, N.C.; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Reese Funeral Home in Austinville was in charge of the arrangements.
