Bobby Dean Dye

Mr. Bobby Dean Dye, age 72, of Doran, Va., died Wed., Jan. 21, 2009, at a Richlands, Va., hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Swords Creek, Va., and was a son of the late Swifty John and Effie Robinette Dye, both Russell County natives. He made his home in the Swords Creek and Doran, Va., areas his entire life, was a disabled coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local Union No. 1256 of Duty, Va. He was a U. S. Army Korean Conflict Veteran and was of the Pentecostal faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Shirley Alice Osborne Dye, and one grandson, Ronnie Lee Hurt, II. Survivors are: three daughters: Bobbie Jane "Trixie" Hurt of the home, Kimberly DeAnna Dye and husband, Keith, of Swords Creek, Va., Brandi Marie Helton and husband, David, of Statesville, N.C.; two sons: Larry Dean Dye and wife, Teresa, of Paintlick, Va., Timothy Dwayne Dye of Swords Creek, Va.; three sisters: Mrs. Betty Ruth Patrick and husband, George, of Richlands, Va., Mrs. Bonita Lawson and husband, Arthur, of Raven, Va., Mrs. Barbara Byas and husband, Fred, of Gray, Tenn.; two brothers: Mr. Gene T. Dye of Richlands, Va., Mr. Dexter T. Dye and wife, Corlie, of Limestone, Tenn.; 8 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Bobby Dean Dye were conducted Sat., Jan. 24, at 2:30 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Monte Elswick and Rev. Grady McGlothlin officiating. Interment followed in the Dye Family Cemetery at Swords Creek, Va. Pallbearers were Rafty Dye, Jared Dye, John Dye, Shanning Elkins, Alan Viars, Brian Perkins, Vincent Whited, and J. R. Salyers. Honorary pallbearers Jeff Dye, Mike Patrick, and Joseph Wilson. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 conducted military graveside rites. Friends called at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands after 6:00 p.m. Fri., Jan. 23.
