Roy Elswick Obituary

Roy Elswick, age 68 of Richlands, Va., passed away Tues., Jan. 20, 2009 at his home. He was born in Red Ash, Va., and was the son of the late Charlie William and Gracie Kennedy Elswick. Roy served his country in the U.S. Army and was of the Pentecostal Holiness belief and a lifelong resident of the area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Those who survive him are: his loving wife, Verlie Osborne Elswick of Richlands, Va.; his daughters: Anna Marie Osborne of Richlands, Va., Brenda Lea Elswick of the home; his son, Roy Elswick, Jr. and wife, Angie, of Richlands, Va.; five sisters: Geraldine Butcher and husband, Roger, of Ohio, Gertrude Richardson and husband, Bobby, of Raven, Va., Faye Brown and husband, Jerry, of Lebanon, Va., Patricia Stilwell and husband, Leonard, of Doran, Va., Gail Martin of Lebanon, Va.; three brothers: Dexter Elswick of Salisbury, Md., Roger Elswick and wife, Elaine, of Wardell, Va., Michael Elswick and wife, Susan, of Roanoke, Va.; step brothers: Dennis Mullins, Terry Mullins, Doug Mullins, Phillip Fleming; step sisters, Linda Ball and Barbara Davis; special friends: Kathy Clifton, Community Home Care and Richlands Home Health; grandchildren, Blake Osborne, Todd Elswick, Zoie Elswick, Irene Osborne, Miranda Osborne, Brandon Osborne; and one great grandchild, Glacie Smith also survives him. Funeral services for Roy Elswick were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thurs., Jan. 22, 2009 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va., with the Rev. Mose Short officiating. Interment followed at the Hankins Cemetery in Richlands, Va. Pallbearers were grandsons and friends. A military graveside service was conducted by the Casey Shortt VFW Post 9640. Friends called Wed. evening, Jan. 21, at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va., from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va., was in charge of arrangements and those wishing to express sympathy online may do so at www.hurstscottfuneralhomes.com.
