Deborah Denise Matney

Deborah Denise Matney, 50, of Fries, born Oct. 5, 1958, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009 in her home. She was preceded in death by her father, the Rev. Ray Franklin Jackson and her grandmother, Irene Jeffrey. She was a retired RN having graduated with an associate degree from Elizabethtown Community College in Kentucky. She was an avid reader and enjoyed photography, crafts, the Internet and shopping. She leaves behind a void that cannot be filled in the lives of all she touched and knew. Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Major Randel Matney (Ret.) of the home; two daughters, Cassaundra Gullion and husband, Jason, of Chilhowie, Amber Ritchey and husband, Michael, of Chesterfield; one son, Steven Matney and wife, Brandy, of Galax; her mother, Shirley Jackson of Bluefield; one brother, Steve Jackson of Tuckerton, N.J.; one sister, Tammy Rutherford and husband, Darnell, of Riner; 15 grandchildren, Sierra, Scott, Alyssa and Franklin, Tyler, Hailey, Vanessa, Jalynn, Michelle, Jacob, Rachel, Haley, Jordan, Darren and Aleigha; and several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. at Bluefield Church of God in Bluefield, W.Va., with the Rev. Danny Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, Va. The family received friends Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Barnett Funeral Home.
