Lillian Virginia "Jenny" Childers, 82, died on Jan. 29, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born March 7, 1926 in Worth, W.Va., to the late Chester and Carrie Belle Perry. She moved to the Chilhowie area in the 1940s where she met and married her lifelong boyfriend, Edward. She had several jobs, but the one she was most dedicated to was serving the Lord and loving her family whom she cherished. She faithfully attended Macedonia Baptist Church where she was a prayer warrior and a friend to everyone. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Carrie Belle Perry whom she cared for until their passing. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Hall, a nephew, Eugene Hall, and a stillborn infant brother. Survivors include her loving husband of over 60 years, Edward Childers; two daughters, Patricia Widener and husband, Tim, of Rhea Valley, Carol Hale and husband, Rick, of Bristol, Tenn.; grandchildren, Aaron Widener of Rhea Valley, Rebecca Widener of Galax, Sarah Conner of Erwin, Tenn., Joseph Conner of Bristol, Tenn.; two step-grandsons, Brad Hale and wife, Lori, of Bristol, Tenn., Geoffrey Hale and wife, Kara, of Bristol, Tenn.; two step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews all precious to her; many dear friends, the dearest being, Anna James Anderson. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Chilhowie with the Rev. Tim Blevins and the Rev. Lloyd Daye officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends on Saturday from 6 until 9 p.m. at Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Chilhowie. Pallbearers were Aaron Widener, Rebecca Widner, Sarah Conner, Joseph Conner, Geoffrey Hale, Jim Aker, Mike Anderson and Brad Aker. Honorary pallbearers were the nephews and deacons of the Macedonia Baptist Church. Flowers appreciated or memorial contributions can be made to the Macedonia Baptist Church. Expression of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleyfh.com Bradley's Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie was in charge of arrangements.
