Eva "Merl" Barnett

Shortt Barnett Eva "Merl" Shortt Barnett, age 72 of Paducah, Ky., formerly of Tazewell, Va., passed away Sat., Feb. 14, 2009. Born Feb. 8, 1937 in Buchanan County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Luther Shortt and Margarett Shortt Lowe. She was a retired employee of Tazewell Community Hospital. She enjoyed spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Billy Joe Barrett; her second husband, Tommy Barnett; one brother, Hobert Shortt; and one sister, Louise Carter. She is survived by two daughters, Daisy Kestner of Bluewell, W.Va., and Jenny Stephens and husband, Jeff, of Paducah, Ky.; two sons, Larry Barrett of Pocahontas and Billy Barrett and wife, Linda, of Princeton, W.Va.; ten grandchildren, Stevie Looney, Daniel Looney, Dean Stephens, Eva Barrett, Billy Barrett, Clifton Johnson, Becky Johnson, Joe Johnson, Geneva McCraw and Cindy Spears; special friend, Irene Glover of Tazewell; and special cat, Tiger. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wed., Feb. 18, 2009 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Va., with Rev. Danny Puckett officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery at Richlands, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
