Dorothy Elizabeth Joyce

Dorothy Elizabeth Joyce, age 85, of Raven, Va., passed away Mon., Feb. 9, 2009 in a Richlands, Va., hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born in Tazewell County and was the daughter of the late Walter and Martha White McGlothlin. She had made her home in the Raven, Va., area most of her life and was a member of the Doran Wesleyan Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thedford R. Joyce; three sisters, Bertha Cruey, Linnie Ellen Perkins, and Maude Gilmer; and one brother, Claude McGlothlin. Survivors are: one daughter: Melissa Jane Joyce Cole and husband, Graham, of Richlands, Va.; three sons: Carl Joyce and wife, Jill, of Toler, Ky., Fred Rufus Joyce and wife, Pat, of Hughesville, Md., Billy Joyce and wife, Sue, of Jewell Ridge, Va.; one brother: Ulys McGlothlin of Chesapeake, Va.; twelve grandchildren: Mike Joyce, Nancy Pinson, Dean Joyce, Jonathan Joyce, Jodi Thomas, Jennifer Collinson, Clayton Joyce, Beth Rocone, Robin Nixon, Amy Sparks, Jared Cole and Ashley Cole; 23 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services for Dorothy Elizabeth Joyce were conducted Fri., Feb. 13, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va., with the Rev. Tex Sawyers officiating. Interment followed at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Friends called after 6:00 p.m. Thurs. evening, Feb. 12, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va.
