William Taylor Obituary

William Dewey Taylor, age 67, of Abingdon, Va., passed away Sat., June 6, 2009 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va., following a long illness. Born at Jenkins Jones, W.Va., he was the son of Virginia Ruth Smith Taylor of Doran, Va. and the late Dewey Franklin Taylor. He was a retired purchasing agent and was a former Virginia State Trooper having served in Norfolk, Va., and in Tazewell County, Va. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death, in addition to his father, by a brother, Jerry Franklin Taylor and a daughter, Stephanie Lynn Taylor. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Duty Taylor; one son, William D. (Bill) Taylor II of Abingdon; his mother, Virginia Ruth Taylor of Doran, Va.; a granddaughter, Victoria Nicolle (Poppy's Baby) Taylor; a niece, Kimberly Taylor Darghty; and two nephews, Jerry Taylor II and Matthew Ryan Taylor. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wed., June 10, 2009 at the Greenhills Mausoleum at Claypool Hill with Pastor John Alrich officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Casey Shortt VFW Post 9640. The body will be taken to the Greenhills Mausoleum at 10 a.m. Wednesday. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
