T. Hancock Obituary

T. Mitchell Hancock, age 74, of Severn, Md., passed away Thurs., June 25, 2009 in Bedford, Va., with his daughters at his side. He was born in Bland County, the son of the late Wilbur W. and Carrie McMeans Hancock. He served 23 years in the U.S. Army with two tours in Vietnam being awarded the Bronze Star. He also served a tour in Korea. He retired from the Army in 1977 and was a civil servant at Ft. Meade, Md., and retired after 20 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion and Ft. Meade Coffee Club. Mitch enjoyed spending in time in Burkes Garden, Va., with his very large family. He was preceded in death by four siblings, Charles, Mack, and Kenneth Hancock and June Cash; and three grandchildren. He is survived by his companion of 34 years and her son, Betty Brogdon of Severn, Md. and Frank Brogdon of Richmond, Va.; one son, Randy Hancock and Kathy of Wakefield, Kan.; two daughters, Catherine Ingram and Jeff of Lynchburg, Va., Linda Johnson and Darryl of Bedford, Va.; eight brothers, Edwin, Douglas and Ruth Ann, Ralph and Barbara, David and Trudy, Bobby and Margaret, Stanley and Mary Liz, Garland, Jerry and Joyce; two sisters, Anna Hough and Harry, Elizabeth Collins and James; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends, especially the Ft. Meade Coffee Club. Funeral services were held Sat., June 27, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. J.R. Gilman officiating. Interment followed in West End Cemetery. American Legion Post #9 conducted graveside military rites. The family received friends Sat. from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, Va., was in charge of arrangements.

I am so sorry for the loss of Mitch. He was always smiling and was a very sweet and kind person. He will be greatly missed by those that knew him. May the Lord be with this family in this time of need. If needed, call. Love you guys!
