Robert Lee Tolbert, 79, died Sunday, July 26, 2009 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn. First Sgt. Tolbert retired from the U.S. Army in 1978 after 30 years of service. After retiring, he lived in Seven Mile Ford where he enjoyed the company of many friends and family. He was the son of the late Carl and Zana Tolbert. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Eugene Elliott, sisters, Louise Mullin and Mary Elizabeth "Sis" Call, and a brother, Charles Tolbert. Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Reavis and husband, Jamie, of Blountville, Tenn.; three sisters, Billie Bales of Glade Spring, Linda McGuire of Saltville, and Ruth Keesee of Hephzibah, Ga.; three grandchildren, Josh Elliott, Rachel Reavis, and Brandon Reavis; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, at Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Will Shewey and the Rev. Jeff Tallent officiating. Burial followed in Mount Rose Cemetery with military rites. The family received friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers were Jamie Reavis, Josh Elliott, Cody Collins, Todd McGuire, Butch Bise, and Keith Rhymer. Online condolences may be made at drhendersonfuneralhome.com D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.
