Alton P. Morehead Jr. Alton Parker "A.P." Morehead Jr., 71, of Bland, the Hollybrook community, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at his home with his family by his side. A graveside service was held Saturday, Sept. 5, at 3 p.m. at the Shiloh Cemetery in Hollybrook with the Revs. Jim Conley and Henry Allen Conley officiating. He was born Feb. 6, 1938, in Bland, son of the late Alton Parker Sr. and Ruth Bowers Morehead. He was a member of the Hollybrook Church of Christ and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce Morehead and Hobert Morehead. Survivors include his wife, Maxine C. Morehead; two sons, Packy Morehead and wife, Diana, of Bland and Matthew Morehead of Bland; four daughters and sons-in-law, Carla and Marty Hutchens, Teresa Starling, Dawn and Keith May, all of Bland, and Laura and James Short of Bluefield, W.Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Rodney and Betty Morehead of Bland; 13 grandchildren, Amber, Adam, Anna Laura, Caitie, Adrianna, Danielle, Stephanie, Courtney, Jacob, Alexandra, Madison, Ashley and Josh; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Memorial donations may be made to the Shiloh Cemetery Fund. A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home in White Gate was in charge of the arrangements.
