Mabel B. Flanagan

Mabel B. Flanagan Mabel Grace Burris Flanagan, 88, of Crockett died Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville. Funeral service was held Sunday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Chapel with the Revs. RuthAnne Henley and James Kennedy officiating. A graveside committal service was held Monday, Sept, 21, at 11 a.m. at King's Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. She was born Nov. 10, 1920, in Wythe County, daughter of the late John Marshall and Dollie Jennings Burris. She was a member of Club 55 Bowling League and King's Grove United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh L. Flanagan Sr.; an infant daughter, Charlotte Virginia Flanagan; a son, Hugh L. Flanagan Jr.; a sister, Mae Bell Thompson; and five brothers, Leonard Burris Sr., Raymond Burris, Roy Burris, Marvin Burris and Albert Moore. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Beulah L. Flanagan of Wytheville; five granddaughters, Terri Pate, Patty Louthan, Kathy Dorrycott, Frances Azoulay and Janice Kidwell; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; special friends, Helen Blackard Newman of Crockett, Edith Cornett of Wytheville and her Club 55 family; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to the Rural Retreat Emergency Services or King's Grove United Methodist Church. Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat was in charge of the arrangements.
