Ashlin Carrie Marie Ashlin, 90, widow of Curtis G. Ashlin, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at Francis Marion Manor with her daughters by her side. She was born in Smyth County to the late John Taylor and Winnie McKinnon Taylor. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Thelma Taylor Greear. She was a master quilter and crafts person. She maintained a membership with the Methodist church while living in Wayne, Michigan, and Sugar Grove. She served in several leadership positions with the Girl Scouts of America, United Methodist Women and Smyth County Extension Service. She was a woman who lived with love in her heart. She lived a courageous and creative life and will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis McClure, Green Valley, Ariz., and Rebecca Taylor Ashlin, Green Valley, Ariz.; two brothers, Ronnie Taylor and wife, Shirley, Rural Retreat, and James Taylor and wife, Mozelle, Baltimore, Md.; grandson, Zachary Ashlin Yunker, Boise, Idaho; nephew and niece, Bobby Greear and wife, Mary, Greensboro, N.C., and Anna Vaught and husband, Johnny, Thornburg; cousins, Freda Duncan, Marion, Mary Jo Phillippi, Sugar Grove, and Libby Prater, Christiansburg. Several loving family members and friends also survive. A celebration of the life of Carrie Marie Ashlin was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Interment followed in the Ridgelawn Cemetery in Sugar Grove. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bradley's Funeral Home. Flowers were appreciated or memorial contributions can be made to the Johnny Greear Memorial Foundation, 3110 North Hampton Drive, Greensboro, NC 27408.
