Jason Rawstron Obituary
Pte Jason Rawstron, 23, was shot when his squad from 2nd Battalion, Parachute Regiment, was ambushed by the Taliban in Helmand Province on Friday (12 September).
Nicknamed 'Suspect' by pals due to his sense of humour, Jason leaves mother Mandy, father Gary, brother Graham and girlfriend Michaela.
Pte Rawstron had earned a George Medal for bravery in Iraq in 2006, the year after joining the army.
His platoon commander Lieutenant Murray McMahon said: "He was without a doubt the most loyal and enthusiastic soldier I have ever known. His strength of character was shown throughout the tour as he guided fellow comrades through difficult situations with considerable courage."

yesterday was always going to be an emotional day, and it was. lots of different events brought a lump to my throat, like when that para saluted the coffin on his way into church. seeing my mates grieve. the expert way the army dealt with proceedings. the guard of honour. the eulogies. the three gun salute. the last post, the way the soldiers presented themselves, it wasnt just a drill. total respect was given by the many mourners who turned out, the british legion st.johns ambulance and the rest. i hope that mandy and family have gained some solace from the great strength of feeling shown from not just claytoners and jays brothers in arms, but the scores of people who mourned yesterday from surrounding districts. R.I.P.

"Suspect" Sorry we did not meet (james 's parents) but everytime Sponge bob square pants (james) was on leave the name "Suspect" always poped up. The magic day sack was always a talkng point. We came to your special day, to represent our son James who you shared time with in 2 Para. Not long after leaving your resting place we had text messages checking that "suspect" was in good hands. My sencere and deepest sympathy to Jason's family and friends at such a tragic loss of a young life of a man cut down in his prime whilst on Operations serving his country in a dangerous warzone - a true heroe. I too served in the army, and served in Northern Ireland and I experinced the death of my brother killed by an IRA bomb in South Armagh when he too was in the army. I was privileged to be in Jays year at both junior and secondary school and i will always remember his smiling face and his bubbly personality.
