Paulo Collazo Obituary

Anchorage resident Paulo Collazo, 22, died Oct. 1, 2008, at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
After a service in Hilo, Hawaii, Paulo's cremated remains were buried in the waters off Cape Kumukahi, Big Island, Hawaii.
Paulo was born July 18, 1986, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Shari (Olander) and Jose Collazo.
When he was 10 months old, he traveled the Alaska Highway with his mother, brother and grampa Charles Olander to Alaska.
He attended Wonder Park Elementary School, Clark Middle School and graduated from East High in 2004. The summer after graduation, he entered the University of Alaska Anchorage's Ford ASSET program, and had an internship at Stepp Brothers Lincoln-Mercury dealership. Later he worked in construction on the North Slope and at Pogo Mine.
Paulo started playing team soccer just before his fourth birthday, then Little League-Majors baseball, kung fu, basketball and swimming. He loved extreme biking, snowboarding and snowmachining. A photo of his snowboarding tricks was published twice in the Anchorage Daily News.
He traveled to many parts of Alaska, camping, fishing and sightseeing, including Brooks Camp, McCarthy-Kennicott, Talkeetna, Chena Hot Springs, Tolsona Lake and numerous places on the Kenai Peninsula.
In other trips, he toured Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and spent a few summers with his dad on the family farm in Ohio. As a child, he traveled to California and Mexico, seeing Disneyland, Universal Studios, Knott's Berry Farm, the San Diego Zoo and Hollywood. He vacationed on Maui twice and spent most of 2006 in Miami with his dad.
"The last couple of years were hard for Paulo," his family wrote, "But we will remember his bright blue eyes and the good-natured smile of a strapping young man with a big heart and big dreams who wasn't afraid to try anything."
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Shari Olander and Willy Tonguet of Pahoa, Hawaii; father, Jose Collazo of Miami; brother, Ivan Molesky; grandparents, Charles and Carol Olander; aunt, Connie Burr, and cousins, Brooks, Caitlin and Chelsea Burr; aunt and uncle, Sandra and Ronald Lane, and cousins, Nathan and Justin Lane; and aunt, Cathy Olander, all of Anchorage; grandmother, Barbara Collazo; and uncles, Vince and Pete Collazo, all of Cleveland.
Condolences may be sent to 15-2688 Mano St., Pahoa, HI.

Paulo spent many hours at our home, with Nick, as a child and a teen. We lived on 3rd Ave, in Anchorage until 2004.
Nick, our grandson, and Paulo were very good friends...school, snowboarding, biking, skateboading....I don"t think there was anything they didn't try : )
Our deepest sympathy to you.

You will be missed buddy :( I only knew you for a short while, but during that time I feel like you were so easy to open up to and you weren't afraid to hold anything back. Im sad to hear of the news and wish so badly that I could have been there for you during your time of need. Rest in Paradise ...

It's hard to believe that that young man we saw so often, across the street at his grandparents' house in Anchorage, has left at such a young age. Our family sends warm thoughts and prayers.

I dont really know what to say about Paulo, he was something else. He was also an individual i will never forget. iv got some pretty goofy memories with him, and each time i think about him i cant do anything but laugh. His image will be with me forever. Rest in peace, man.

I just heard about Paulo's passing a few minutes ago and was overwhelmed with sadness. We were friends in high school. Even though I hadn't seen him for a few years I actually thought about him just the other day. I will miss him and will always remember him. Hugs and Kisses to you Paulo and your family.

Paulo was a great friend, and as interesting a person as one could hope to know, he will be greatly missed by all of his friends. We only knew Paulo for a few short years but he came to be close to us in that cherished time. Paulo, we will miss you, and know you are in a better place.
