I first met "Mother" at a recurrent shortly after Delta's purchase of Northeast. I had wondered what strengths NE had that allowed it to remain in business. She was an eye opener instantly making me realize how much I didn't know.
Thanks again Pat!

I met Pat as a new hire in 1978 and immediately became one of her "lambs" She was the strongest supporter and best friend any Delta pilot ever had. Her contributions cannot be overstated and she will be dearly missed by us all. God bless you Pat and God bless your surviving family!!!

Northeast Airlines finest contribution to Delta. "Mother Malone" will be a legend at Delta. As a new-hire I met Pat in Boston in 1972 at the time of the merger. I wondered, "Who IS this lady?" I came to learn just who she was, what she knew, and how she took care of us, HER Pilots. Wow! Pat will never be forgotten!

Pat was indeed our "mother" in the pilot lounge. She always had time for us, ready and willing to help us translate and weed through the reg's, answering any and all questions. Her consistent warm smile greeted me every time I saw her. I will always carry fond memories of her from my early days at Delta.

Mrs. Malone,
Maam, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the USN during WW II and for being member of the Greatest Generation. You might not have served in combat but God knows how many fighter pilots learned the basics from you to go on to survive fighting the Japanese in the Pacific and help win the War. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Tricia & Bob,
We are so thankful that S/0 B class (Sept ’72), you two and Pat were able to get together in Napa last year.
Pat’s stories in the classroom and at the reunions were priceless. We will cherish the memory of “our mother” forever.
As has been said before, there was not an approach to any runway in the world that we didn’t hear Pat’s voice in the back of our head guiding us to a safe landing.
God blessed the pilot group with a wonderful person.

When a new hire it came as a total surprise that Pat now saw our class as her "kids". I thought that was for all those who had come before us. Her list of "kids" grew as long as she was with us--and all who knew her really did feel that she was "Mom". One of her great quotes to remember....when warning to not make any public statements after and accident/incident..."remember Kids, a fish never gets caught unless it opens it's mouth." We love you and will miss you Pat. Our condolences to your family. God Bless, Terry Raymond

I was employed by NEA in Sep.1960 and had the pleasure of knowing Pat from a distance.
I would see Pat at the NEA lunch room mingling with people from all departments of the company.
I was new to the Company and wonder to myself how a woman could be so popular and well liked by so many. I found out her job was to train pilots in the flight simulator.
I again couldn’t figure that out. What could she possibly teach experienced pilots? As the years began to drift from 1yr to 33 yrs, I became fully aware of her talent and abilities and why everyone like and respected her.
Working Line Maint at the gates in Bos, ATL and finally BDL. I would listen to the stories that were always drifting around in the cockpits, about the training the pilots were scheduled to take or had already taken from Pat. Each seemed to have a different story to tell, yet all seemed to reflect a genuine love and respect for their teacher, Pat Malone.
Pat had a lot of unknown friends like me that observed and listen from the sidelines. I'm proud to have served with her in a time when each of us knew each other, cared about each other and respected each other because of a common cause, Air Safety and Personal Pride in doing our best, working with a caring and struggling company.
Pat’s type of work is never done; she excelled at what she did and helped others do the same. Her love for her work was only out done by her love for people. She has been an inspiration to us all
God Love Her.

A light has gone out in our aviation world. Pat Malone will live on every pilot's heart who ever came in contact with her. One of my favorite moments was when she was riding on one of my flights, and the flight attendant asked her if her trip was for business or pleasure. She replied that she was the Captain's girlfriend, and was going on his layover with him. Pat and I laughed about that for years. She was a great lady, and a unique human being. I will miss her.

What a wonderful tribute to a truly amazing woman. Pat's legacy will live on, for she has touched the lives of so many people and they will continue to share what they learned from her with others.
Pat was a well respected and honored member of ABWA. Someone we all looked up to for guidence, leadership and support. She has left a lasting impression on this association and we are all better for it.
I had the honor of spending the weekend with Pat a short time ago (July 25-26) and those memories will stay with me forever. The Top 3 officers of ABWA (Lina, Vicki and myself) took a wonderful picture with Pat that weekend and it's one all of us will treasurer. She talked about coming to national conference in Covington, KY this year. While she won't be there physcially, she will definetly be with us in spirit.
Thank you Pat for all that you did in support of ABWA. I can only hope you fully realized the joy and laughter you brought into all of our lives through your mentorship, your smile and your kindness. Because of you, we have all become stronger.
We will deeply miss you!!

Pat was simply a legend at Delta, and an inspiration to all of us. She was that rarest of the rare -- a NON-pilot who knew instinctively and intimately how pilots thought, acted, and reacted to both people and situations. Through her warm and engaging personality and her VOLUMINOUS knowledge, Pat Malone immediately earned -- commanded really -- the respect of all the Delta pilots she interacted with -- that would basically be ALL of us!!
It was a genuine pleasure to know her and to work with her. She was a HUGE help when we set up a "First-time, First Officer" Ops Specs course back in about 1988, following a lengthy period of no hiring and slow seat progression. Many of us who came out of the military were "behind the power curve" on Ops Specs, and with the huge hiring wave and rapid seat advancement that came in 87-88, we needed to absorb it faster than the traditional "osmosis method" allowed. Pat was there when we needed her to set up this course, insure it covered the essential information, and actually TEACH us, to insure we got up to speed ASAP. After attending her classes and guidance, as new F.O.s, we were knowledgeable enough to actually assist the Captains on occasion!
And, her legacy lived on! Later, as a Check Airman, as many of us did, I made thorough Ops Specs instruction a significant part of the IOE's I flew, especially with first time Captains and F/O.s. I always thought of her when doing so. Pat Malone was simply "Synonymous with Ops Specs" at Delta Airlines - a legend in her own time, and ever since!!

I had the honor and distinct priviledge to have Patricia W. "Mother" Malone as my grandmother. God truly blessed me with the gift of this wonderful lady. Without her, I am most certain I would not be who I am today. She taught me so much about love, life, and the ability to properly set a table. (Grammy I know you remember!) From the bottom of my heart and the deepest corners of my soul, I miss her today and everyday. I will be eternally grateful to the one responsible for bringing my Grammy to me. The world is a darker place in her absence, but I will not morn, because I know that some where out there, she is waiting for me and I will see her again. Until then, all my love Grammy.

Mother Malone
By Captain Mike Trahan
It was just another recurrent
And all that goes with that,
But this one class would change our lives
For today we would meet Pat.
She charged in from the great Northeast
To sweep us off our feet,
We Delta guys were all in shock
And were in for quite a treat.
We said to ourselves, "Who needs this stuff"
How little did we know,
Just one or two questions from Ms. Malone
And our ignorance began show.
She had one goal in mind for us
To be legal when we fly,
And if we were not legal
We had damn well better know why.
Twenty two years have suddenly passed
Since we met that fateful day,
And Pat has managed to touch all our lives
In some significant way.
She has saved so many careers
In ways we have never known,
Just to mention her name around them
And the Feds began to groan.
We all got to hear "Pat Answers"
When we took our captain bid.
She prepared us for what was to come
But that's not all she did.
I had just checked out as captain
And I went by to see Pat,
Of all the things I did that day
The most important was that.
I knelt by her desk with head bowed low
Of course she was curious why.
"I come for your blessing Mother," I said,
"For without it I will not fly."
She laughed at my self-effacing joke
But her words revealed her heart,
"You'll never fly alone," she said
"Here's my home number for a start."
From everywhere we have called her
And at all times of the day,
"Pat, it's foggy here in Boston now
Should we wait 'til it goes away?"
Doing it all from memory
She knew exactly what to say.
We looked it up and sure enough
The rules said we wait today.
Pat, life is filled with endings
Some the saddest things we know,
This one is especially hard for us
Because we hate to see you go.
You inspired us to strive for excellence
To be the best at what we do,
If we could succeed at that my friend
We would all be just like you.
In years to come we'll mention your name
With awe and respect anew,
As we tell our young pilots about you
So they'll know you as we do.
We will tell them we called you Mother
For that title you've certainly earned.
You loved us as a Mother would
And we love you in return.

I was honored to have Pat stay at my house when she visited Greensboro for our ABWDay weekend one year. It was an honor and we had a great time talking and sharing and she treated my Samantha like one of her own grandchildren. Then she took the time to find a movie that my daughter Samantha reminded her of and sent it to us. She also never forgot to ask about Samantha or my husband any time she saw me after this trip. She was a rare and special lady. One more of my fondest memories was on this same trip, I believe, we were going to do the Pledge of Allegiance and we did not have a flag. We were taught real quick(and this was not the only time we were all taught a lesson from Momma Pat) that you did not do the pledge without a flag!!! I will never forget this or her. She was a special, wonderful lady who always had time for you and made you feel special in return!!!!

Pat Malone was an extremely intelligent, confident, and sharing woman who wasn't afraid she would lose power by sharing hers. Not only did she share this wealth with her fellow ABWA members and Delta personnel, but she shared this with her family.
I had the privilege of sitting with Pat and Trish at her final ABWA luncheon just the day before her accident, and I marveled at the way the two complimented each other. That is a true testament to each of us who were fortunate enough to pass through Pat's life.
Hallmark must have known Pat as well, because Pat will always remind me of Maxine (and I love Maxine!). She wasn't afraid to share her true feelings if asked--you always knew where you stood with Pat.
You will live on in our hearts, Pat! Trish and Alison, because of Pat's many associations you will always have people looking out for you!
Here's to you kid (Pat)!
