Family-Placed Death Notice
Melvin E. Denney, of Hapeville, died Sunday, October 28, 2007. Melvin was a 33 year veteran of the Hapeville Police Dept., having retired as Chief, was a former Hapeville City Councilman and was a Deacon and Treasurer of the North Avenue Church of Christ. He is survived by his children, Rodney Denney, Jackson, Matthew Denney, Atlanta, Grace Ann Craig, Dayton, PA, Marschell "Missy" Smith, Warner Robins; a sister, Grace Sanders, Fayetteville; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 1st at the North Avenue Church of Christ, in state at 10 a.m., with Minister Scott Richards officiating. Interment, College Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the North Avenue Church of Christ, 3308 Old Jonesboro Rd, Hapeville, GA 30354. All the way back to Hammond Park, North Ave Grammer School and Hapeville High - Melvin has always been a good friend of my family - Hoyt, Bobby And Butch and I, Jimmy Saxton will always remember Melvin and his days as a policeman and chief of police at Hapeville - he was forever a friend of my mother and my dad - James and Floy Saxton on King Arnold St in Hapeville - our whole family wish to offer our sympathy for the family

Denise & Ron Biles, Amy Alexander & Joyce Greene ~ We all loved your dad.He was easy to talk to and was a good listener. ~ We were shocked that he went so fast. It is comforting knowing that he didn't have to suffer long but it is disturbing that we didn't get to say goodbye. We will miss him. He was a good God fearing man.
