Charles Reece Obituary

CLEARWATER, S.C. - Finished life's journey and entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, Mr. Charles L. Reece, age 73, of Clearwater, S.C., loving husband for 55 years to Janie Harris Reece and son of the late Ben F. Reece and the late Anna Ward Reece. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters; Gail (Johnny) McGee of Clearwater, S.C., and Darline (Bob) Perkins of Cross Hill, S.C.; sons, Larry (Trudy) Reece of Evans, Ga., and Jerry Reece of Clearwater, S.C.; brothers, J. D. Reece of Florence, S.C., and David Reece of Wimberly, Texas; sisters, Shirley Collier of Ft. Worth, Texas and Brenda Potter of Orlando, Florida; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was born in Forest City, N.C. but has lived most of his life in Aiken County. He was a member of Bath United Methodist Church in Bath, S.C. He had a great love for his family and friends; and next to them, came his love of playing country music on his steel guitar. As a matter of fact, he was the co-founder of the Southern Steel Guitar Convention in Saluda, S.C. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched; however, there is a consolation in knowing that life for Charles has not ended but only begun in a better land. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, November 21, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Bath United Methodist Church with Rev. Wade Everett officiating. The interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens in Langley, S.C. The pallbearers will be Charlton Reece, Jared Reece, Jonathan McGee, Tony Rhoden, Howard Antram and Jason Rushton. The family will receive friends tonight, Thursday, November 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Napier Funeral Home. Memorials, in Mr. Reece's honor, may be made to Bath United Methodist Church, Drawer C., Bath, S.C. 29816. Mr. Reece will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service on Friday. We regret not being able to attend the funeral but our thoughts and prayers were there and we pray for God's loving comfort and peace surround Charles' family and friends during this time and throughout the days and years ahead. We had prayed that Charles would get well and have many more years to enjoy his family and his music but take comfort in knowing that he is now living and performing with The Great Musician in Heaven. We are blessed to have his beautiful "Steeling for Jesus" CD and enjoy it very much. It's a Treasure! He will be truly missed by all who knew him. Love and prayers, Marjie and Family

Janie, please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. All of my life, I never heard anyone say Janie without Charles or Charles without Janie - you were just that kind of loving couple and an inspiration to all. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to know this.

Ms. Janie, Larry, Jerry, Gail, Darline, I only had a short time to know Mr. Charles but he had a smile that lite the entire room. I am so glad that I got to meet such a wonderful man. I am sure he is playing his steel guitar for all my loved ones and for my special grandmother who will take him under his wing until we meet him again.

Our Church will say a prayer for Charles on Saturday AM at Communion Services, and light a memorial candle for him. I'm the youngest of Bert and Ethel Reece's daughters. Charles has a special place in my childhood memories. I was fortunate enough recently to receive one of his CD's, "Steeling for Jesus". He was truly gifted. Love to you all.

I wish we could have lived near by so we could have spent more time together but I have fond memories... like his first steel guitar he built when we did live there. May God give you strength through this rough time. If there was any way, we would be there but probably won't be able to. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you.
