I did not know Rick very well but i always enjoyed talking to him when i saw him in the field. I rememeber many years ago when I ran into Rick and Colton at the mall, i guess Colton was about two at the time and i sat down and talked with the two of them and will actually always remember that. It is great to see Colton now and the great young man he has become.....gary stafford, kpnx-tv (1975-1996)

I went to see a movie today and it was based in Boston. I tried to see if the building we lived in was in the movie. Brought back so many memories of the time we lived in Boston, walking along the Charles River with Tony bundled up in the stroller. It was a great time in our lives. Remember when they filmed The Love Story in the park and we walked by there? When we got back to our home you took a picture of me and our kitty outside in the snow and cold and you said I looked like Ally? Just wanted to share this with you today.

Rick, It has been so long since you left us but it still feels like yesterday. You are greatly missed here in Phoenix. You touched so many souls here on Earth. Miss our long conversations.

August 10, 2013

Rick, it's been so long ... yet it seems so close. I think of you all, at times when I least expect it. You were so very kind to me.. gracious and funny.. So appreciated how warm and compassionate you were when you called Colton each morning after we flew .. Who ever knew you were one of the angels among us.. though the skids are down for now, I hope you greet me with wings to fly when the time comes. You are remember as the wonderful, giving man you shared. Wish we had more time.. Suspect there are no news desks to report to in heaven and you can fly to see whatever it is you want.. Six years later my friend and you're in my thoughts..

Princess Kiana was one of God’s greatest gifts he could put on this earth. Kiana was such a precious Jewel, that when she returned to heaven, God wanted someone very special to look over his precious Angel. God chose our beloved Papa Rick to become Kiana’s Knight in the Kingdom of Heaven.
So until we see our Princess Kiana and our beloved Papa Rick again, I wish them a good journey and when they look upon us down here, there will be smiles on their faces, for we are all continuing on our own journey, with our heads held high and hearts full of warmth.

I love you Princess !!
I love you Father !!

Take care of each other up there, as we will take care of each other down here, and when we want to talk or see both of you, all we have to do is: Dream; Dream, Dream, Dream; Dream!!!!!!

Pa, I know you're physical presence is no longer here on earth, but I can feel your Spirit is with all of us always. I hope you truly know how much I love you, and I know as hard as it is to say, the day you died was the best day of your life. You got to see your creator. The one who loves you. Just know you are the best dad that ever lived, and I think about you every day. Pa, I miss you. Keep your sense of humor, that's one of the hundreds of thousands of things that I love about you. I haven't forgotten about my nicknames: Claxton, Craiton, Cotton. I'll talk to you tonight.

Okay Rick, here it goes, have not been able to make myself get on here until now. The memories and fun that you and I shared, the hardships that we faced together, the complete bond that you and I had with our sons, was not to be denied. We held a golf tournament in your name just 2 weeks ago and that will be an ongoing project until the day that I finally get to hook up with you (and Terry) again. Will watch over your children as if my own but you already knew that.
Love you my friend.

The fact that people are still leaving comments should show just how much Rick touched their lives.
I still think of Rick often even though I hadn't seen him in over 25 years. He certainly touched my heart and it's still hard for me to think he's gone. I always hoped I'd see him again.
My thoughts & prayers are with his sons. I hope the comments left by others are bringing them some comfort.

Happy Birthday Dad! I miss you so much. I never got the chance to tell you dad, how much I love and appreciate you. I would give anything in the world to be able to tell you that face to face, but I will never have that chance now. All I have is our memories, which I will cherish forever.

My father taught me to, give your best at everything you do and don’t let anything get you down. So that is what I am doing, I’m doing the best I can and I’m keeping my head up. Thank you for making me the man I am today, I won't let you down. It has been an honor and privilege to have known such a Wonderful man, my father Rick Krolak!

December 12, 2007

Dear Pa,
I love you so much. I hope you receive my prayers every night. I know you are looking down on us right now and I can't stop but to think that you might be closer right now than ever before when you were alive. You truly were the best father that ever lived and I dare any one to contest to that. I love you so much and words can't describe hown much I miss you. Remember the game we used to play where we measured love dad and kept saying that we loved each other more and you would respond "I love you more" and I would quickly reply back "Well I love you the most." Well Pa, I learned something, we both love each other and were closer than any father and son and that is how it should be. Tell God and Kiana, I said "Hello"
Goodbye Dad,
I love you more than anything in the world
Love,
Colton

To all of the wonderful friends, family, coworkers and strangers who have signed this guest book: Thank you so much for your kind and loving words of support. They have meant more to our family than you can imagine. It is a blessing to realize that so many of you that we know from the past and present are here to help us navigate an uncertain future. It has helped us immeasurably to know that we have never been alone in these dark and difficult days. It has taken us hours, but we have read through each and every submission in this book. We have cried, laughed, and received inspiration and comfort from your words. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Blessings to all -

The memorial service for Rick was beautiful. Rick's job was to cover the news. I'm sure he never imagined he would be the focus of so much attention. Those who attended the services and those of us who watched on TV or on the Internet, or just paused for a moment to remember him, helped to respectfully bid farewell to an unforgettable man. The deeply moving tributes touched my heart, especially the loving words delivered by his sons.

Tony, Eric & Colton -- I know things will never be the same without your dad, but as things quiet down and you try to find your way to go about your lives without him, remember he will forever be a part of you. Continue to be the good persons that he taught you to be, and you will always honor his spirit and his name. That is the kind of legacy he would have been proudest of.

I also wish you peace as you mourn Kiana. Although her life was much too short, I can see that she was a child who was lucky to be surrounded by a lot of love.

Take great care....

Dear Ricky – thank you for being a friend to the both of us and for sharing your kind, gentle and loving soul. Your humor, smile and quick wink got us through many a seemingly endless production day … who could forget the week at Old Tucson Studios! To Rick’s family … thank you for sharing him with all of us, we are the richer for having known him. Love always.

MaryAlice Minard (nee Rojas)

August 3, 2007

To Rick's parents, siblings, sons and grandchildren, as well as his extended/blended family, friends and colleagues:

The events of July 27th have left me stunned and struggling to find what would be appropriate to express to you along with my deepest sympathy. I just have to come to grips with the realization that there are no adequate words to ease your pain of losing two beloved people in your circle. I hope in here somewhere within all these messages, there is some comfort knowing that so many people care and share your sorrow.

I got to know Rick during his first years at KTVK, which were my last years there. While we did not stay in touch, I came away with very sweet memories of our countless chats and laughs. He is truly an unforgettable soul. I recall that on his first day at the station, he popped his head into my office and asked, "Who are you?", flashing that famous smile of his. He didn't wait for the customary round of introductions. And we became fast chums at work, sharing stories about family, the TV biz and life in general -- plus he used to practice speaking Spanish to me! I was also such an easy audience for his humor, so that made him a regular visitor. I believe that my office was a good respite for Rick, away from all the madness of TV news. Tony & Eric -- you probably don't remember, because you were very young, but I recall a few times when your dad left you in my office, so I could keep you occupied, while he tended to some newsroom business. I always admired what a devoted dad he was.

Only a couple of weeks ago, I was reminiscing about Rick. He was given credit for a photograph that I found at another former colleague's web site. And there were many memories to revisit at that time -- memories of his spirit, talents, his dedication to fatherhood and his profession, and naturally, his jokes. I know that had our paths crossed again, I would have received the warmest hug from him. After reading all the recent online messages and hearing the on-air tributes, filled with affection and respect, it did my heart good to know that after all these years, Rick was still the same good guy that I remembered and that others appreciated him the way I have.

I wish peace and strength to all of Rick's and Kiana's close, loved ones, as well as others whose lives were touched by these two individuals. I know you will miss them tremendously. One day, as you heal and visit your treasured memories, may your tears give way to smiles.

The newest stars make the heavens even brighter.

With heartfelt sympathy,

Faye Nugent

Rick,
I never sent the thank you card from my wedding. I was planning on hand delivering it the next time I saw you. The best gift I got was from you. To have YOU shoot my wedding in Sedona was very exciting. I was getting my dress on when I got the message from you that my husband to be was mic'd. I don't know how many people can say that Rick Krolak produced, filmed, and edited their wedding video. I do know that I will be bragging that Rick did mine and now it is even more special to me. You are already missed and always loved. And by the way THANK YOU

To the Krolak Sons . . . my husband, Les (who is a close friend of your Father’s), and I read through all of the entries in this Guest Book last evening. I was deeply moved by the multitude of lives your Father has touched throughout his lifetime on Earth. The loving words spoken on the positive influence he has had on so, so many speaks volumes about how great a man he truly is. As I laid my head on my pillow last night, I thought of your Father and wanted to share with you that he has inspired me to continuously make my best effort to embrace life, show love, feel gratitude and make a difference in someone’s life each and every day.

Dear Tony, Eric and Colton,
Your father was one of the best people on the planet and one of the best friends I have ever had. Whenever we worked together, it was more like play. We were doing what we loved and we got to share it with each other. He also shared with me the love he had for the three of you. You are very blessed to have him as your father and he is triple-blessed to have you as his sons. His glorious transition may be painful for you now, but his everlasting love for you will bring more comfort to you, soon. His Brilliant Light has become even brighter and its glow is there to guide you to the greatness that you three are. You may have lost your father in the physical world, but you've gained a magnificent ally on the other side. Your father wasn't just a friend to me, he was also a brother. My heart and prayers are with you during this powerful time. If there is anything I can do for you, don't hesitate to call.

It's been almost 20 years since I last saw Rick out on a story or at one of the local TV after hour get togethers, though it seems like yesterday we would be telling jokes or talking about family or work. No matter how bad our day was or what tragedy we covered he still managed to find humor in something. Back in the 80's local TV was competitive but also like an extended family. I'm sorry I never stayed in touch with Rick after we moved. He will always be part of our happy memories. God bless you, your family and friends.

Rick you were truly one of a kind.
Thank you for gracing us all with your presence for the time that you did.

We love you.

We know that you are now an Angel in the Sky flying and looking down upon us watching over us with your granddaughter.
God Bless you and your family.

I met Rick in 9th grade at Ernie Davis Jr. High School in Elmira, NY. Went through high school with him and after graduation in 1970, I didn't see him again until our 10th year class reunion. He hadn't changed ... still a great, funny and caring guy whose big dimples were only surpassed by his big heart! People come and go in our lives, but old friendships never die. May you rest in peace Rick. My condolences to your family.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Krolak family and all his friends. Such a life to be taken way to soon, but God was ready for him to come home and opened his arms and took him in. His is in heaven with his granddaughter and they are ok--they are taking care of each other. Just know someday you will be renited with them again. You can tell just by pictures that he was a fun, loving honest guy.. He will be truly missed. He is now a bright start shining in the great big sky. God Bless
