Gregory Zaft Obituary

Gregory Boyd Zaft unexpectedly passed away on July 19, 2005. He was born in Berkeley, CA, on September 9, 1956, and lived in many places throughout his life, including 3 years in Manila, The Philippines, as a young boy. Greg was an amazing and generous person who was a great businessman and took pleasure in owning his own company and watching it grow from the ground up. He thoroughly enjoyed helping people in any way that he could and giving them every opportunity available. His passions were for working on muscle cars and motorcycles, taveling and seeing the world, family activities, sports, and adventure. He would run with the bulls in Pamplona. Above all, Greg loved his family dearly. He leaves behind daughters Cori (25) and Chelsea (21), son Geoffrey (18), ex-wife Terri, fiance Suzanne Gere, sister Kathy, brothers Gary and Gordon, father George, step-mother Fran, and many other friends and family members. Greg was a guardian to so many people he knew and touched the life of everyone he met. He was a remarkable father, uncle, son, brother and friend. Greg will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and will never be forgotten. Services will he held on Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at 6:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 2121 S. Rural Road, Tempe, AZ. He will be laid to rest in Tucson next to his mother, Marjorie Zaft Wolfe, on Thursday, July 28, 2004. Hello! I just came across a business card, Life Time Roof Systems. It´s where Greg worked for the few brief months we dated some time about 1979 or so. We actually met in traffic school for tickets we both had gotten. He was so much fun, smart, funny and darn good looking! It makes me so sad to see he passed so very young. I´m writing this just to remind his kids and loved ones how very much he meant to people you never met and that his memory does indeed live on. Prayers for him to be with out Lord Jesus for all eternity.

Well Greg, Its been a whole year since you left us and not a day goes by that we don't spend a few minutes with you. Your brother is assembling a number of remembrances by your family and friends to be read at your resting place this weekend. We all miss you Greg!

I will never forget the time I took Greg out to the desert and allowed him to ride my "older" but much faster dirt bike. He was handsome and cocky as he stated that "If I wreck it, I will buy it." Very shortly after we took off from the unloading area, Greg cracked the throttle and to his surprise it was not his well known Harley, but a incredibly powerful Honda and well I was able to sell that dirtbike without advertising it. I'll never forget the size of that rasberry/bruise on Gregs backside, Greg was always true to his word though, I will always remember how handsome and positive he always was. I am missing him now more than ever! To my good friend... I love you man!

I was deeply saddened to get the news of the Greg's passing. When we visited AZ in the early 90's and again upon Greg's visit to MI for Aunt Philly's funeral, he always greeted us with a happy smile and open arms. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and may he rest in peace. God Bless.

I did not know Greg, but seeing his picture and reading his obituary and guestbook notes I nevertheless feel the loss of his passing. I grieve with Gordon and his family at Greg's loss, and rejoice in what sounds like a full and giving life. I will keep all in my prayers. Rae

Dear Greg,

I'm so sorry I didn't have an opportunity to know you as others did; but I feel I know about you from all of your friends who have known and loved you for so long.

I am looking forward to meeting you on a bright and beautiful day in heaven. There, we can sit under a great spreading Banyan Tree and really get to know each other, (the way I wish we could have here on earth).

In that day our family circle will be complete, and all tears will be wiped away.

Good by for now, dear Greg, until we meet again where Jesus lives.

HARD WORKING HANDS AND A HEART OF GOLD,

A SMIRK AND A CHUCKLE THROUGH STORIES HE TOLD.

WHETHER RUNNING WITH BULLS OR RIDI’N A HOG,

HAVING TEA IN TURKEY OR LUNCH IN PRAGUE,

AMSTERDAM NIGHTS OR A SUNNY BEACH DAY,

WHAT A JOURNEY OF LIFE HE WOULD CONVEY.

HOW EARLY IT SEEMS HE WAS TAKEN AWAY

BUT OH HOW MUCH HE ENJOYED HIS SHORT STAY.

MAY WE ALL LEARN FROM HIS LESSON ON LIFE,

BRIEF IS OUR TIME, LONG IS OUR STRIFE.

BREATHE IN MUCH JOY, WHILE YOU HAVE THE CHANCE,

WORK WHEN IT’S TIME, BUT TAKE TIME TO DANCE.

HE HAD HONESTY IN HIS WORDS AND A FIRM HANDSHAKE,

HE WOULD LOOK YOU IN THE EYE AND HIS WORD NOT BREAK.

YOU COULD SEE THE LOVE FOR LIFE IN HIS BLUE EYES SO DEEP,

YOU CAN HEAR HOW WE MISS HIM THROUGH THE TEARS THAT WE WEEP.

WE NEED MORE MEN LIKE HIM, TO MAKE THIS WORLD A BRIGHTER PLACE

I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER MY FRIEND GREG WITH A SMILE ON HIS FACE.

MAY PEACE BE FOREVER WITH HIM,

ALWAYS HIS FRIEND.

We were so sorry to hear of Greg's passing. The last time we visited was a few years ago when he traveled to Ann Arbor for our Aunt Phyllis' funeral. It was nice to see him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the Zaft family. We will miss Greg!

Our beloved son Gregory is gone and we’ll not see him again in this world, but the many people he befriended in life will never forget him. He has more “best friends” than anyone we have ever known, for which we are eternally grateful, and all because of the love, friendship, kindness and generosity he has always shown to others. Good bye, son, you can rest in peace now.

I will miss Greg so very much! He was an amazing man and I treasure the time that we had together 20 plus years ago and recently as well. He was so kind and generous and the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off of his back. He loved his family and friends and lived life to the fullest and with passion! My thoughts and prayers go out to his precious family and those of us who loved him dearly! Thank God for the hope of eternity when we will meet again!

I am at a loss as to what to say. I have lost two close friends over the past year and would like to say that a day has not gone by that I have not thought of them. No one is ever forgotten and the memories out there only are of the best of times.
