Roberts, William Kenneth (Bill), PhD
Bill Roberts passed away March 3, 2011 at home in Phoenix, AZ. He was born December 10, 1928 in Provo, Utah to Lillian and Boyd Roberts. Bill graduated in the Class of 1947 from Newport Harbor High School. He received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at the California State Polytechnic College at San Luis Obispo in 1952, a Master of Science in Agriculture and a Doctor of Philosophy from Washington State College at Pullman in 1959. Bill met and married his wife, Joan Wharton Roberts, at WSC in 1956. Bill received a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, Department of Biochemistry, 1959-1960. Joan and Bill decided "how cold could cold be?" and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where Bill was a professor at the University of Manitoba, 1960-1966. Returning to the USA, Bill became the Director of Research at Kern County Land Co. Cattle Division, Bakersfield, CA, 1966-1968. A 1968 move brought Bill and his family to Phoenix where he joined Nutrition-Laboratory Services, Inc, a nutritional consulting service for the cattle industry. He was involved in his consulting work until March 2010 with clients throughout the Western States, Mexico and Australia. Bill's life activities ranged from Eagle Scout, the Marine Corp (1952-54), Sigma Xi (Scientific Research Society), AAAS (Advancing Science Serving Society), Arizona Cattle Grower's Association, Elanco Cattle Nutrition Advisory Board, Sunnyslope Historical Society, Sunnyslope Village Alliance and Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Phoenix. Bill was a loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Fishing in the White Mountains with his grandchildren was his favorite past time. He was an avid sports fan and tennis player. His days were filled with life, laughter, and love. With his integrity, quiet demeanor, and bright smile, he touched the people around him. Bill is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Sterling and Boyd Roberts. His survivors are a brother, Jim Roberts, Costa Mesa, CA, his loving wife of 54 ½ years, Joan, children Jeff (Jeanne Bradshaw), Tammy (Mike Auther) and Julie (Tom Pancrazi), grandchildren Caitlin (Jude Miller), Ben Auther, Allison Auther, Colin Pancrazi, Clayton Pancrazi, Coralie Pancrazi and 4 nieces. Memorial service to be held Saturday, March 12th, 2:00 PM at the Unitarian Universalists Congregation of Phoenix, 4027 E. Lincoln Drive Paradise Valley, AZ 85253. Arrangements being handled by Hansen Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St. Phoenix, AZ 85014, Yuma Catholic High School, 2100 W. 28th St., Yuma, AZ 85364, the Unitarian Universalist Foundation, 4027 E Lincoln Drive, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253.

So sorry to hear of Bill's passing. Our thoughts are with you during this time of sorrow. I always enjoyed Bill's inputs and interactions as a member of the Elanco Nutrition Advisory Board. He truly was a joy to know and had a real impact on the industry. God Bless!
