Judith Stone Obituary

Stone, Judith Lee
December 19, 1939 - March 5, 2011. After almost forty years of marriage, and the last three years suffering with cancer, Judith Lee Stone finally lost the battle on Saturday, March 5, 2011 and was ushered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Gerald; her precious son, Paul (Dawn) Williams; her sweet daughter, Sharon Kaye (Daryl) Ferguson; two stepdaughters, Kristi and Karin Stone; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and her beloved sister, JoAnn Smelser (Phil). Judy was born December 19, 1939 to Earle Lincoln Stone and Edith Mildred Stone (Fisher) in Phoenix, Arizona. Judy lived in Phoenix and attended public schools there, graduating from Phoenix Christian High School in 1958. She attended Phoenix College and worked as a secretary and office manager for several years. She married David Miles Williams in 1959 and was blessed with the birth of Paul David Williams in 1960. Judy and David were divorced in 1971. Judy was reunited with her high school sweetheart, Gerald Wayne Stone, also a graduate of Phoenix Christian High School, and they married in 1971. Daughter, Sharon Kaye was born in December, 1975. Judy and Gerald lived in Page, Arizona, for twenty-one years, enjoying boating on Lake Powell. They moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, in 1993, where they have been members of Bookcliff Baptist and later, Heritage Church for many years. Judy did childcare for most of the twenty-one years in Page. She loved working with children and was so good with them; they loved her and respected her. Through the years she had a positive influence over many whose lives are now better because of her. So many will remember her fondly as their child care provider or children's church teacher. She loved creating beautiful things, decorating the house, designing a beautiful yard, creating beautiful flower arrangements for church. Her stated goal for many years was to create something beautiful every day. She leaves a hole in the hearts of many who loved her, especially Gerald's, and will be missed terribly. Good bye, my darling butterfly. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 16 at 11:00 AM at Callahan Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction. Services will conclude at the mortuary. Please consider making contributions to Heritage Church or Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado in lieu of flowers.

The Stone family lived down the street from the Wilson family on Avalon Drive in Phoenix, Az. Judy's mother was my first piano teacher and we also enjoyed figs from the fruit tree in their back yard. I fondly remember Judy playing with my sister Sally in the rafters of our garage, where they had built a "Club House." I was persona non grata. Rest in peace Judy.

Dear Jerry, Sharon, and Paul, Judy was a beautiful, Godly woman. She was a woman of character and class. She was such a joy to be around. She was a wonderful example of a christian woman. I am so sorry for your loss, but know she is safe in the arms of Jesus. May God continue to give you all His perfect peace. Love, Darrell and Carolyn Bunch

Dear Jerry and family,
A beautiful lady is now in the presence of our Lord. We were one of the lucky families to have benefited from Judy's special care when she provided childcare for our son Jed when he was just a little guy. She brought so much beauty to this world. We know she will be terribly missed. You are all in our prayers and we love you.
