Charles Moon Obituary

Moon, Charles Spencer
of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on March 5, 2011, at the age of 81. The youngest of three children, Spencer was born in Liberty, Missouri, where he lived throughout his childhood. Upon graduating from high school, he attended William Jewell College in Liberty. Then Spencer followed his dream of becoming a doctor, ultimately attending medical school in Tennessee where he met Lucy who would later become his wife. After getting married on December 1, 1957, Spencer did his medical residency at Cook County Hospital in the Chicago area. After that be enlisted in the Air Force, working at Andrews Air Force Base during the Kennedy Administration. Upon being honorably discharged, Spencer and Lucy went west, making Sheridan, Wyoming and later Santa Fe, New Mexico, their home. Then, in the spring of 1972, Spencer moved his young family, which now included his two young boys, David and Philip, to Mesa, Arizona. For the next 25 years Spencer worked as an internist with ABC HMO, which later became INA, and eventually CIGNA. Spencer retired in 1997 to spend his golden years with his wife, two adult sons, and 6 grandchildren. His grandchildren will always love remember their grandpa. They adored him in a way that almost defies words. There never was a time when they did not dogpile him or fight to jump on his lap. And grandpa, for his part, loved them back in the same way. It was beautiful to see. In our mind's eye Spencer is not gone. Though his body be lifeless, his soul lives on in eternity with his Lord and Creator, Jesus Christ. This gives us great hope and comfort. We will see him again --- in heaven where there is no pain, no sorrow, no suffering, no sickness, and no death. Spencer is survived by his wife Lucy, his sister Mary, his sons David and Philip, and his 6 grandchildren (Lev, Zoe, Taylor, Connor, Ryan, & Brandon). Visitation and memorial services are at Meldrum's Mortuary in downtown Mesa on Friday, March 11, from 10-12. Spencer will be laid to rest the same day at Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery in Mesa from 12:30-1:30. Lunch will be held at Red Mountain Community Church following the internment. Death is not the end; it is merely a transition. John 14:2: "In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you."

Lucy and all the family of Spencer, I am sorry that he has passed away and has gone to be with the Lord. He was a friend and we suffered together for 2 years at the University of Missouri.
I lost touch with Spencer when he moved from Las Sendas.
I am thinking of you and offer my deepest condolences.
