Marlene Hooper Obituary

Hooper, Marlene Riley
passed away, March 10th, 2011 in Mesa, Arizona. She was born on July 21, 1935 in Selby, South Dakota to Tillie and Karl Riley and moved to Ray, Arizona in 1945. She spent her adult life in Scottsdale and Mesa. Services will be held Monday, March 14 at Red Mountain Commu nity Church 6101 E. Virginia Street, Mesa at 1:00PM. Marlene was preceded by her husband H. Victor Hooper and leaves four children, Linda Hooper Bonham, Michael Hooper, Karen Burns, and Nicholas Hooper. She has eleven grandchildren ages 3-30, Andra, Korey, Kyle, Chad, Bethany, Hannah, Austin,Samuel, Aimee, Ben and Cash. She will be remembered by her family as the Grammy who was devoted, fun, and an ever- loving presence in their lives. She held an annual Grammy Camp for the grandchildren for many years. Marlene graduated from Arizona State Teacher's College in 1956. She was a former teacher who continued to serve children in many ways through her church and the community. She was a Master Gardener, Toastmaster, friend to many & volunteer. She volunteered for nursing homes, her local church and her community. She was a talented floral designer and collected antique hats both used to inspire memories in the elderly and delight in the neighbors, friends and even strangers who crossed her path. She will be remembered fondly by her family, many friends, & neighbors who were blessed by her loving, laughter filled personality, her garden & her energetic generosity. One of her favorite places to visit was Sunshine Acres' Boutique where the proceeds go to children, Marlene's favorite cause. Sunshine Acres' mission statement is to provide a loving, wholesome, Christian home for children who are separated from their parents and help them establish long-term relationships with stable parental figures, preparing them for success in adult life. Lois and Norm Rich of Bethesda, MD send sincere condolences to Marlene's Family...Words are never adequate at a time like this, however, we are among those who will miss Marlene very much...I still remember meeting Marlene in the summer of 1945 when she and her two older brothers appeared at the Ray swimming pool: it was an exciting event in Ray ! ...Marlene and I grew up together through the teen years and remained close friiends since...Her husband, Vic, also, was a close friend in high school and college remaining a close friend until his death...There are many, many fond memories that we shared which makes life worth while...Norman

Marlene was a great wife, mother, sister, and friend. Vic and Marlene raised wonderful, caring, Godly children. They did an awesome job here on earth and now they are both with their Heavenly Father in all His glory! Amen...
