William Steele Obituary

Steele, William Boyd
William Boyd Steele was born Jan 29, 1943, in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Joseph and Agnes Steele. He grew up in Bridgeport and joined the Air Force directly out of school. He served his Country honorably and retired after 31 years of service as a Chief Master Sergeant. He served in the Vietnam War and many bases in the U.S. and overseas. After retiring, he and his wife settled in Arizona - "he said he would retire in the first location, that when he held up a snow shovel and the residents didn't know what it was, that was the place!" Of course, it was also where his daughter and grandchildren came to reside too! He was a loving, devoted family man; an ordained deacon of the church; an inspirational instructor to college students; a volunteer in many areas to young and old alike, and always there for those that needed a hand. He's an alumni of ASU and constantly spoke with young adults to guide them to achieve more. His credence - Always have a goal, but make sure it is BOTH realistic AND attainable! But never give up. He showed this in his battle with health issues over the last 20+ years - but he NEVER gave up! Mr. Steele passed away Tuesday night, March 8th at the Community Living Center (CLC) in the Phoenix VA hospital. Mr. Steele is survived by his loving wife Sandra, devoted daughter Michelle Ybarra, adoring grandchildren Anthony and Krystal Ybarra, dedicated companions Bosco and Buddy, extended family at the CLC and numerous friends and compatriots. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 11:00 AM, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM at Phoenix Memorial Park & Mortuary 200 W. Beardsley Rd. Phoenix, AZ. Burial will follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. Please visit www.phoenixmemorialmortuary.com to leave on-line condolences for Mr. Steele.

Sandy, I just found out today that Bill passed away. I was saddened to hear the news. He was one of my favorites at the VA. You were always such a delight to see. I was only a student, and only there for a short time, but really grew to love you both. I am so sorry for you and your families loss. I know how much you two loved each other.

Michelle,
My heart goes out to you and your family. Your dad sounds like a wonderful man - worthy of your love and remembrance. I pray that the love of family and friends are a comfort to you today and in the years to come. Remeber the hugs, the smiles, the laughter, the every-day-times - that's what being a family is about.
Love,
Jan

Dear Sandy: Billy was a big part of my youth as we both grew up in Seaside Village, and our Grandmothrs lived next door to each other.....he was the first boy I kissed.....of course, we were only 6 years old!!!!! He was quiet and sweet....I was hoping to see him at our 51 class reunion. I sm so sorry that he suffered in any way, and hope your love for each other will give you comfort.
