George Papazian Obituary

George A. Papazian George A. Papazian, Ph.D, passed away peace-fully at age 84 on March 7, 2011. George was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. An avid lover of classical music and art who spoke six languages, George was a child psychologist who devoted his entire career to child education and to serving at-risk children, particularly minorities and those who were cognitively and emotionally challenged. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Anahid Papazian; and children Ruth, George and Irma, William, Madeline; and grandchildren Alexandra, BJ, Michael, George, Aline. George was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and attained the rank of Corporal and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Con-duct Medal. He also served as a volunteer for the British Army in WW II. Son of Hagop and Hripsime Papazian, George was the youngest of three children and was born in Lyon, France on May 15, 1926. We have lost a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and he will be sorely missed. We appreciate his love, devotion to family and the strength of his heart, and the dedication of our mother in caring for him as she did. Georges funeral took place on March 9, 2011 at Saint Apkar Armenian Apostolic Church and was attended by his family. He rests at Paradise Memorial Gardens. Donations in his memory may be made to Saint Apkar Armenian Apostolic Church of Arizona, 8849 E. Cholla Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85260. The family would like to extend deep gratitude to his caregiver and therapists, as well as to the staffs of Mayo Clinic and Scottsdale Health-care Osborn Intensive Care Unit.

Dad, it's been 10 years since you've left us. There is a void in our lives, but Mom and I know that you are in a better place -- and that we will be reunited one day.

I get glimpses of being together again whenever you visit me in a dream. Today, a few minutes before I awakened, I again saw you in my dream -- and held your hand. The sensation of my hand in yours was strong and palpable, and I know you were with me for those few, fleeting seconds. You were happy, and smiling. The touch of your hand was comforting, just like it was when I was a little girl.

Thank you for visiting with me today, and thank you Heavenly Father for allowing my Dad to steal away long enough to let me know he's OK.

I want to share two lovely messages I got from friends:

From Larry B. I can only hope sweet memories help to mitigate the sad ones.

From Mark F. via his rabbi: May his memories be a blessing to you.

My memories of Dad are both a comfort and a blessing.
