Mark Atwell Obituary

Atwell, Mark
crossed over on a desert night, March 3, 2011 in Cave Creek, Arizona. Mark died after a long battle and will be deeply missed. He was 54 years old. As creative as he was mechanically adept, he could take scrap metal and weld it into functional art. Mark loved mountain biking, flying, sailing, and playing his guitar. A wry lyricist who could make up a song about the day's events on the spot, he will be remembered most for his quick wit and innate sweetness. He is survived by his partner, Michele DeLacey; mother, Sherri Chessen; father, Robert Fink bine; siblings Terri Arnold, Steven Finkbine,Tracy Atwell, Jody Zarkos, Kristin Atwell, their spouses, children, and many, many adored friends. Mark is preceded in death by his beloved girl, "Eighty" and is surely reunited with her in the sky. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19th, 11am at the Franciscan Renewal Center, 5808 E Lincoln Drive, Scottsdale, 85253. The service will be held outdoors at the Altar Ramada followed by an open house hosted by Mark's mother at the home of Kristin Atwell and Dennis Ford in Scottsdale. A gathering hosted by his father will be held that same day at 4pm at Los Olivos North, 15544 North Pima Road, Scottsdale, 85260. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Southern Arizona Children's Advocacy Center, www.soazadvocacy.org.

Markie... I'll miss you man and always have you in my heart. I'll never forget growing up with you around. The words of wisdom you added to my life and vocabulary. Words like compelcious, and sprackle-de-dowch. Thanks for the lessons in welding, and getting a bigger hammer.

Love and miss you man.

1973 or '74, right when I first started playing guitar, I said to Mark "name this tune" and started strumming. I was hearing "Like a Rolling Stone", which I figured he'd get right away because it was Dylan... finally, he said, "'sounds like La Bamba..." I started thinking more about my inner ear...

Mark:
I count it a privilege to have known you. You were my children's "Uncle Finky". You left too soon! You will be missed...

We will cherish the memories you so joyously blessed us with... You will be dearly missed, but remembered with felicity. May you find Nirvana, dear Mark.

I loved Mark. His sense of humor was incredible and I'd still be laughing from something he did or said weeks later. My heartfelt condolences to his parents, siblings, extended family members and to everyone who loved him. Our lives will not be the same without him.

I knew Mark may years ago when we were all young and trying to find our way in the world. Mark was a wild and crazy dude, who made everyone laugh. He stood out as the one who created fun times for all his high school friends. He will be missed by all who had the chance to spend time with him, whether it was in a small group of friends, or a large group of acquaintances. If Mark was a part of the group, everyone knew it would be a fun time for all. Rest in Peace, Mark. You leave behind a lot of memories for all those who grew up knowing you.
