Rosie Andrade Obituary

Andrade, Rosie "Miranda"
73 of Glendale, passed away on March 12, 2011. Rosie was born on April 2, 1937 in Glendale, Arizona, where she remained a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of Manuel and Petra Miranda and had 4 brothers, Manuel, Antonio, Pedro, and Jose Miranda, and a sister Armida Delgado. She was a natural athlete and as a young girl played ball with her brothers. From the age of 10 and throughout her school years, during summers, Rosie played softball with the Poston Tillage Sweethearts, where she earned all state honors five times as a short stop. Rosie attended Isaac Imes Elementary for grades 1-4, and Unit 1 School for grades 5-8. While at Unit 1, she was the anchor on the track relay team and set a school record for the fastest time. The record still stands. Rosie attended Glendale High School where she played volleyball. After High School, Rosie played professional Softball with the A-1 Queens in 1956 and the famed Phoenix PBSW Ramblers from 1957 to 1960. She helped lead the team to the runner-up spot nationally and was voted most colorful and popular player in the tournament. She later played with the Sun City Saints from 1966 to 1968, where she was twice chosen for the Pacific Coast Women's Softball league all-star team. She retired in 1969. Family was a significant part of her life. In 1961, Rosie Miranda married Porfirio Andrade and they shared nearly 50 years in the Holy Sacrament of Marriage. She was very proud of her two children and two grandchildren. She loved them deeply. Rosie spread her athletic talent to her daughter and grandchildren and was their number one fan. At work Rosie was without question a dedicated and diligent employee. She was employed for 27 years at Glendale Union High School District and retired in 1999. She didn't stay in retirement long going to work at Independence High School in 2000, where she would work for the next 10 years. The year 2000 would be a remarkable year for Rosie and her family. In March of that year, her son, Father Paul Andrade, was ordained to the Priesthood. On the same day she learned that her daughter Helen would be inducted into the Arizona Foundation Softball Hall of Fame. They remain the only mother and daughter inductees. Although she had many great accomplishments, Rosie was a very modest woman. She didn't often speak of her own historical achievements, but was more likely to point out that her son was the Priest in their church, or that her daughter was inducted into the AZ Softball Hall of Fame. She loved her grandchildren - they were her pride and joy. While being interviewed for the Arizona Republic, Rosie remarked of her family, "now all of us have made our dreams come true." Rosie is preceded in death by her parents and 6 siblings. She leaves many cherished memories with her husband Porfirio, her son, Father Paul Michael Andrade and daughter, Helen (husband, Don) Siggelkow; and two grandchildren, Zachary and Samantha. Her life will be celebrated with a Visitation on Friday, March 18, 2011, beginning at 5:00 p.m. and concluding after the Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The Requiem Mass will be on Saturday, March 19, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Avenue in Glendale, AZ. Committal services immediately follow at West Resthaven Park Cemetery. Condolences and more info at www.westresthavenfuneralhome.com

To the Andrade family,
Our hearts are full of happy memories -
church rummage sales, pot lucks and luncheons, Rosie's friendly smile, telephone chats, her desire to make her family happy - I am reminded of all these things as she is daily in my prayers trusting that her soul rests in God.

Dearest Rosie,
Every Sunday/holyday, as you waited to receive Holy Communion, you would take my hand and hold it for a few seconds. Those gestures of love and friendship will never be forgotten. You have been a dear and wonderful friend in the few short years I have known you. Rest in peace, my friend. Janet Wies (Sun City, AZ)

I remember Rosie from the PBSW Rambler Softball days. I was a little kid and a neighbor used to take me to the games every so often. There was Rosie on that 3rd base. She made an impression on me with her incredible talent and energy for the game. After all these years I've never forgotten what a dedicated person was like. God Bless her and Thank You Rosie. I'll always remeber you.

Aunt Rosie,
Thanks for all the wonderful times we've had growing up in Arizona. We have great memories of those times. We moved to San Diego in 1966 and the times we spent visiting you and the family were just as fun and memorable. It was like we never moved away. Thank you and Aunt Armida for all the help and love you gave to my Mom when my Dad, your brother, passed away. You were both wonderful. Now the Miranda family are all together again once more. My Dad loved all of you so much. May You All Rest In Peace. My condolences to your family. God Bless You.
Love,
Rosalia Duarte (Miranda)

Dear Porfirio, Fr. Paul, Helen and family,

A dearer personality I have never known. Her smile, her concern for everyone; as a confidant, and fellow worker at church rummage sales back in the 1990's, all will leave lasting memories, and our fun party at the restaurant celebrating her softball accomplishments, all will be lasting memories.

Our love and prayers will continue, and
we ask God's special blessings for the
Andrade family.

Till we meet again, Rosie.
