REST IN PEACE Coach Cahill. I cannot express how much he positively impacted my life. I was one of his track "stars" at Eastmoor HS from 1964-1966. Coach Cahill was truly a great mentor and inspiration to me while I struggled through high school trying to find my identity. I remember how we used to ridicule his car while going to away games. He took it with grace and patience. With his inspiration and guidance I went on to college and beyond. Through the years I would often think of Coach and wonder how he was doing. When I decided to check his name today, I was saddened to read of his recent passing. To Coach's family I will say that I have shed a tear today. He is a man you can truly be proud of.

There are people you meet in your journey of life that make a difference in your world. Vince Cahill made such an impact on not only me but so many young people throughout his career. His love for the game of football, his zest for life, and his passion for his family, were all great examples of the man he truly was. Ken and I were fortunate to have spent some time with him in AZ and in OH once they moved back. I will remember him with a big ole smile on his face having fun on a golf course! A Friend
Yes, words are important. They do describe our relationship with Vince Cahill. Donna and I have these experiences that speak descriptive of this man and his family. Our time together returns to Sherwood Middle School, Walnut Ridge High School, and Mayer High School in Mayer, Arizona. I also am honored to call Vince a fellow United States Marine. Vince was and is a Christian gentleman. His positive influence on many as father, husband, teacher and coach began then and will continue beyond this day. We are all better people today because of Vince Cahill.

I just yesterday learned of the death of Mr. Vincent Cahill. I was a member of his 1960-1962 track and field teams at Columbus Eastmoor High School and remember him with much respect and admiration. I can still hear his voice encouraging his athletes to do their best in practices and in competitions. He was precisely the type of person who should have been a teacher and coach of young people--and he was a good one. He lives on in the memories of all the people whom he influenced. My condolences to his family.

I am saddened to here of the passing of (Coach) Vince Cahill. I was his junior high school basketball manager in 1960 and 1961. Oh, I hated those 7:00 am morning workouts and my mother even more; since she had to take me to Eastmoor.

In 1963 I received a varsity letter in cross country; I never forget Coach Cahill coming up to me before practice one day and congratulating me for my great races; then asked if I was going out for track? I was a very motivated athlete; it didn’t take much to convince me to go out for track. My junior year I did OK, but not great in my opinion. In my senior year at the Eastmoor Invitational track meet I ran my best mile. Then several weeks later in the Columbus city meet I placed 5th place. At the spring sports banquet, I was voted the most improved track & field athlete, thus improving my one mile time by 24 seconds from my junior year to my senior year.

After graduation, I still ran track on my own, unheard of in those days. I saw Coach Cahill at indoor track meets at Ohio State. When I had a leg injury he saw to it that I could use the Whirlpool at Walnut Ridge high school.

Yes, indeed I have fond memories of Coach Cahill, and pray that I see him in Heaven.

My memories of Coach Cahill weren't always pleasant because he was usually criticizing me, urging me to do better and work up to my potential. In the years since high school, I have often appreciated his directness, and I have benefitted from his advice in many ways neither of us ever imagined. Lots of people like me who never went on to achieve athletic greatness learned life lessons from his example, and have in turn taught those lessons to others. He was a great coach and educator. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time of profound loss.
