Terry Smith Obituary

Smith, Terry Lee
Loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, of Glendale, AZ passed away on March 8, 2011 after a long, courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Terry was born on September 8, 1955. She graduated from Eastern New Mexico University and obtained her Masters from Eastern Illinois University. Terry worked for the United States Air Force where she supervised the men and women of Detachment 1, Air Combat Command Training Support Squadron. During her career Terry received various awards in recognition of her devoted service and outstanding performance; most notably, she received the Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award, the federal government's highest civilian award. Throughout her 7 year battle with cancer Terry lived life to the fullest: she continued to work, traveled with family and friends, obtained her scuba certification, completed the Rock and Roll Arizona Marathon, and much more. She was a kind, loving soul who encouraged and mentored everyone she knew. Terry is survived by her husband Walter Smith; daughters Tiffany Steward and Jessica Keeney; parents Patrick and Theresa McDonald; siblings Mary Hanel, Michael McDonald, Patty Elliott, and Mark McDonald; and many nieces and nephews. A private celebration of her life was held by her family and friends. Her family would like to thank the nurses at Hospice of Arizona's Peoria Inpatient who tenderly cared for Terry the last two months of her life. Terry was one of the most inspirational women I've known. Despite the countless rounds of chemo, surgeries, complications, she never complained or felt sorry for herself. She truly fought a brave fight up until the end...she will remain a part of my heart forever. We love you, Terry!!!
