Helen Cullings Obituary

Cullings, Helen S.
91 of Avondale, AZ, passed away March 11, 2011. She moved to Avondale from Kinderhook, NY after the death of her husband in 2007. Born and educated in Watertown, NY, she was the daughter of the late Walter M. and Blanche Helling Somers. During World War II, she was employed by the Corps of Engineers at Madison Barracks, Sackets Harbor, N.Y. as a clerk typist. She married her husband John R. Cullings, June 4, 1942 and is survived by her daughter Catherine Hanson of Avondale, AZ, and their son Thomas, of Minneapolis, MN. Upon her husband's retirement Mrs. Cullings lived in Great Barrington, MA. There she and her husband opened and managed Beech Tree Antiques. They retired for a second time to live in Kinderhook, NY. She shared her husband's love of boating and for several years wintered in Jacksonville, Florida on their boat. She enjoyed bridge, was a wonderful letter writer, and loved to garden and read. She was very much loved by her family and will be greatly missed. The funeral will be private. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to the charity of their choice.
