Ethel Harkleroad Obituary

Harkleroad, Ethel Marie
passed away on Mar. 12, 2011. Affectionately known as "Apple" was born May 30, 1927 in Crandon, WI, she was one of five children born to Laura May (Frank) and Richard Charles Abelt. Her familly moved to Everett, WA in 1935 and she lived there until she married a young navy man from AZ. As a young bride of AZ. native William Bruce "Harky" Harkleroad, she moved to Phoenix in 1945. Ethel and Harky raised their two daughters Diane and Candy in Phoenix and then Wickenberg until his sudden death in 1962. Returning to Phoenix, she eventually went to work for Sperry Rand and retired after 20 yrs. in 1986. She found joy in her family and the friends she made over the years. Always ready to laugh, she often had that twinkle of mischief in her eyes. She enjoyed the companionship of "her love" of the past 40 yrs. Christopher Wilfred Carr, who survives her. They enjoyed their time traveling in their younger years and of course times with their friends and family. In addition to her parents and husband, Ethel was preceded in death by her sister Florence Crowder and brothers Robert Oliver and Richard Charles Abelt. Surviving in addition to her daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and John Brumbaugh and Candy and Barney McManamon are her granddaughters, Samara (Erik) Wier, Sara McManamon, grandsons Blue and Sean Jones, Bruce and Eric Brumbaugh and great grandson Sterling Houston and great granddaughter Bailey Brumbaugh; sister and brother in law Alice and Mick O'Dell and familly. Aunt Apple will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Memorial service will be Mon. March 21, 2011 at 6:00 PM in Paradise Sunset Chapel Funeral Home 3934 E. Indian School Rd. Phoenix. Family suggest memorial contributions to Hospice of the Valley 1510 E. Flower St. Phx, AZ. 85014
