Steinhauser, Donald
85 passed away on March 15, 2011. Steinhauser, Donald L., 85, of Anthem, AZ died March 15, 2011. He was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota on November 23, 1925. At age 11 Don and his parents August and Ida Steinhauser moved to Hermosa Beach, CA. The day after graduating from Redondo Beach Union High School, class of 1944, he joined the Navy. After several months of training he was sent to Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands. After WWII ended he was assigned to USS LST (H) 950 and sent to the remote islands in the Marshall and Gilbert Islands. After the war he attended and graduated from Compton Jr. College and then continued his education at El Camino Jr. College and USC. His career included bonding, property and casualty insurance. In 1950 he married Wilma McBride and they lived over thirty years in Westwood Village, CA. prior to moving to Arizona. He was a member of Blue Goose in Los Angeles and Phoenix; commodore of Marina Boat and Ski Club in Marina del Rey, CA. Conestoga Wheels Condo Board Member in Sun City; Golden-Go Getters, Treasurer, Firewise Committee Member, Anthem, and an election volunteer. Don was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Harold, Clifford and Leland. Don is the proud "uncle" of 92 nieces and nephews, spanning 3 generations. A "Celebration of Life" will be held at the Anthem Country Club, Persimmon Patio on Sunday, March 27, 2011 from 3:00-5:00 PM. 2708 W Anthem Club Dr. Anthem AZ 85086. Funeral Arrangements were handled by Sunland Memorial Park and Cemetery.

I so enjoyed seeing Don at the Firewise meetings and around Anthem at other activities. He always had a smile and called you by name. He was a joy to work with and lit up a room with his presence. I am honored to have known him.

Don was such a great friend to Anthem and especially our Anthem Firewise group. We miss this kind and wonderful man. We miss his smile and his energy for life. Our condolences to Wilma, their family, and friends.
