Barbara Gibson Obituary

Gibson, Barbara Ann
Barbara Ann Gibson died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Show Low, Navajo County, Arizona. She was 53 years old. Barbara was born on December 20, 1957 in Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona to the late Neldon Edgar Nichols and Janell (Kleinman) Nichols. She graduated from Westwood High School in 1975. She was a natural athlete and thoroughly enjoyed playing in a good game of basketball. She also enjoyed watching baseball and football. And, with her competitive spirit, Barbara never passed up the opportunity to play anyone in a board game. She enjoyed them all! Being so well-rounded, Barbara also appreciated music, in all its varieties. Many times she found peace, comfort and refuge by listening to beautiful music. Barbara was a devoted wife to her husband, Glennwood, and truly made their house a home. She loved to lose herself in the service of others. If children were involved, even better. Even though she had none of her own, she loved to take care of others' children and she loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. Barbara was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served within its several capacities. This incredibly vibrant individual will truly be missed by the many who called her wife, sister, aunt, daughter and friend. Barbara is survived by: her husband, Glennwood Gibson; mother, Janell K. Nichols; siblings: Neldon Jr., (Linda) Nichols, Linda (Arlon) Petersen, David (Sandy) Nichols, Jim (Eileen) Nichols, Jack (Janey) Nichols, Tom Nichols, Alan (Bobbi Jo) Nichols; brother-in-law, Bob Hipps; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Along with her father, Neldon Nichols, Sr., she was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Hipps. The funeral for Barbara will begin 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the Lindsay Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1150 N. Lindsay Road in Gilbert, Arizona (1/2 mile south of Baseline Road) where the visitation will begin 1 hour prior. The concluding service and interment will follow at the City of Mesa Cemetery, 1212 N. Center Street in Mesa, Arizona. Barbara's family is grateful to everyone who has extended their sympathy to them through thought and deed and are appreciative of all the prayers offered up on their behalf. Owens Livingston Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements. Barbara was very musical and was a percussionist in the Westwood Warrior Band our senior year, and also participated in the orchestra. I had no idea she was living in Show Low, just 25 minutes from my home (I would have loved to play her some Scrabble). I remember her as a very sweet girl and it sounds like she blessed many lives thru the years. So sorry for your loss. Our class of '75 has lost another precious classmate.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I graduated with Barbara but never knew her that well. What a special person. Far too young to pass on at this point in our lives.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the Nichols family. It is always sad to lose another one of our Westwood Class of 75 classmates. We love you.
