Bobby Horton Obituary

Horton, Bobby Jean
Faithful daughter and loving sister, beloved mother and wife, proud grandmother and committed servant of the Lord, Bobby Jean Davis Horton of Glendale passed away peacefully early Monday morning after battling a brief illness. She was an active and vibrant 78. Bobby was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on May 9th, 1932, the middle child of Robert Henry Davis, Jr. and Leona Marie Brown Davis. Reared in a Christian household, her otherwise happy childhood was marred by the untimely death of her father in 1946. She worked as a retail sales clerk to help support her mother and younger brother after graduating from Leavenworth Senior High School in 1950. On February 19th, 1952, she married hometown sweetheart Roy Ellis Horton II and embarked on a 30-year career as an Air Force spouse. During her husband's military career she traveled extensively throughout the United States and overseas. A highlight of her "world traveler experiences" was the opportunity to visit the Holy Land and to walk in the footsteps of her Lord and Savior through the streets of Jerusalem. Bobby also devoted herself to raising two sons, instilling in them her love of nature and literature. Despite this hectic schedule, wherever she went, she still found time to be involved in charitable work with the Protestant Women of the Chapel. After his 1980 Air Force retirement, Bobby and Roy moved to the Valley of the Sun, settling in Glendale. Bobby then resumed her career in retail sales, rising to the level of department manager at the Valley West Mall branch of the Boston store chain. After joining the Wesley United Methodist Church she served tirelessly in various leadership positions. She also immersed herself in additional charitable works and leadership positions on multiple Church Women United boards and committees. In her spare time, Bobby enjoyed crossword puzzles, spoiling her grandchildren, and visiting the adorable Labrador retrievers living across the street. Bobby was predeceased by her parents, her older sister, Leona Mary Davis Lewis, and her beloved husband. She is survived by her younger brother, Robert Davis III, her sister-in-law, Frances, two sons, Louis Horton II and Colonel (Ret.) Roy Horton III, her daughter-in-law, Dr. Lendra Horton, two grandchildren, Rhea Denise and Brian Horton, as well as countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends around the world. A visitation for Bobby will be held on Friday, 25 March at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N. 59th Ave., Glendale, 4:00-7:00 pm. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, 26 March at Wesley United Methodist Church, 750 East Southern Ave., Phoenix, 10:00 am with internment to follow at Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 W. Beardsley Rd., Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Wesley United Methodist Church Mentoring Program (c/o Wesley United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 8508, Phoenix, AZ 85066).

Aunt Bobby Jean,

You will always be my little Angel,

I always thought you would live forever, I never imagined you flying away into the heavens so soon, but now I know, your flawless work on earth, and your never-wavering love & loyalty to the Lord has been sincerely appreciated & God needed you "Home" to lead all of the angels in heaven.

I always knew you were a special lady, & that God really must have taken his time when he brought you into our lives, may you always look down upon us & keep us all safe, we will all try our very hardest to follow in your footsteps, as those steps you took here on earth, are unmatched, you are truly missed, although you have left us, you will never be forgotten. For we all know, you will still shine bright in all of us.

I am very grateful to know that I spent a lot of time with you, and that we shared lots of memories together, those times I will always hold close to me.

Love,

Mark
(Great Nephew)

A beautiful and sweet lady, she was one of my favorite customers at Walgreens. She loved to talk and I loved to listen. Saddened by word of her passing, she will be missed.

"My Aunt Bobby Jean was a truly remarkable person and will be sorely missed. Her gregarious passion of caring for family, friends and charitable contributions were but a few of her amazing attributes. I know she's in heaven with my Uncle Roy and smiling down on us now." Mrs Horton was one of God's reminders to us that there is always light in your soul to share. She was always welcoming to a "stray" and years later you found out that you were always in her prayers. The world is less without her
