James Sawey Obituary

Sawey, James William Col USA Ret
77, passed away on March 19, 2011 after a courageous battle with a devastating disease. He was born in Roswell, New Mexico on July 14, 1933 and raised in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Jim held various command positions in Germany and Vietnam. He served in the office of the Army Chief of Staff as well as Chief of the National Guard Bureau Personnel Section in Washington D.C. Later assignments included the Presidio of San Francisco and Post Commander of Fort Douglas, Utah. After retirement he was employed by Wackenhut Services as Deputy General Manager at DOE Training Center, at Manzano Base and at the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in New Orleans. Jim, Ann, and their daughter, Leslie enjoyed church, traveling, and outdoor activities. He was very active with Leslie's special programs. Jim had a huge heart and loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Ann; daughters, Leslie Sawey, Jane Castillo, and husband, Chuck Castillo, MD.; grandchildren, James Davis and Alexandra Jane, from Phoenix, Arizona. Sister, Anne Fisher and her family, from Temple Texas; and brother-in-law, Virgil McCollum and his family, from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 27, 2011, from 3:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M., at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel. A Service will be held Monday, March 28, 2011, at 11:00 A.M., also at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel. Interment will take place following the service at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
