Greta Marquis Obituary
Greta M. Marquis, 87, passed away March 23, 2011 in Tempe, AZ. Greta was born April 5, 1923 to Harry and Cora Lee (Urquhart) Truswell in Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada. She married Neil Marquis at St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. Greta worked for many years with the Tempe Elementary School District in the Food Services Department and was a member of the Tempe Pyle Recreation Center. Her most special achievement was raising a wonderful family. She is preceded in death by her brother Charles Truswell, parents Harry and Cora Lee, and Neil Marquis, father of their 6 amazing children. She is survived by her children Neil Marquis (Marty) of Neskowin, OR, Bonnie Marquis of Tempe, AZ, Bruce Marquis (Frances) of Tucson, AZ, Anne McKeeman (Dale) of Chandler, AZ, Mary Dobstaff (Perry) of Mesa, AZ, Rita Homewood (Troy) of Chandler, AZ; sister Helen Standage of Tempe, AZ; brother Richard Truswell of Salt Lake City, UT; 14 Grandchildren; 13 Great Grand Children, with one on the way; and many loved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1221 W. Howe, Tempe, AZ 85281. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley, Friendship Village 2525 E. Southern Ave., Tempe, AZ 85282. Carr-Tenney Mortuary, 480-967-2104, assisted the family with final arrangements.

I feel like there's a crater in my heart left by the loss of beloved aunt Greta. Her front door was always wide open whenever my family went to Tempe to visit. May God cradle her family in the palm of His hand at this time. Neil, Bonnie, Bruce, Anne, Mary, and Rita, I love all of you.

I just got back from the service, many thoughts of your MOM came to me. She was always smiling, had a nice word for you when I would visit your home. I speak for the entire Defer Family and our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. We have such wonderful memories growing up with all of you. Our families were so close and your Mom was near and dear to us. I read the following thought somewhere and believe it to be applicable in this situation: "I like to believe that when we lose someone close to us they still live through us and give us strength. The time we have spent with those we've lost makes them part of us."

Neil,Bonnie,Bruce,Anne,Mary&Rita.I have a million memories flashing through my head right now! The path between 5th St. and Beck Ave was traveled quite frequently! Even though it was many yrs ago, seems like yesterday. I know your mom's warm smile and especially her laugh (so cute)will be truly missed.I remember it well.
